Long Term Disability Insurance?

My workplace is having open seasson for suppliment insurance. I was looking in to the LT disability but just being diagnosed with UC created a pre-existing condition. Has anyone tried applying for LT dis Ins?

Just wonder is its worth even trying at this point. As far as I can tell I can work and it may be years down the road depending on how things go.  It's different for everyone.

Anyone have any stories to tell?

 

that's definitely worth considering. it provides income when illness is so great that cannot work, but also protects your job-- you cannot be fired or laid off because you're missing work as long as the terms of disability leave are met, which usually includes a doctors note explaining why you cannot work at this time. i think mine will like pay 75% of full salary. it does take a small amount out your monthly take home, but still think its well worth considering. is worth inquiring about and let them know of pre-existing condition, that might be important to let them know, because if they don't know and then get approved. but, later have to take leave because of UC, they might pull the "pre-exisitng disqualification" on you and deny claim.

Well if you ever want to get a job in your field that provides health insurance where you can't be disqualified due to pre-existing conditions, or provided life insurance, or disability insurance with no barriers, seek employment with cites, county s, colleges, or universities. The pay isn't as good as the private sector but the benefits are outstanding and often go with you into retirement. My entire career has been in the public sector and I've been treated very well both in the workplace and with benefits.

This is one thing I got going for me...I'm a gov employee. At least I got the term life taking care of a while back on my own. Just stuck w/o the LTD. Kinda wish my husband had the gov job and the benefits.  That would take a lot of weight off my shoulders!
