Celebrex, Glucosamine and flaring?

I take Tramadol with no ill effects..... I take Ryzolt, which is a 24-hour time release version, and it does fine. I've taken it more days than not since last October (9 months) without issue.

I tried glucosamine last winter and thought it brought on some bleeding, but I was in a mild flare anyway, so I'm not sure. I did stop it, though, just in case.

Others take Celebrex, so maybe they'll chime in. We need to be careful with any kind of NSAIDS, so it's possible that this one brought on your flare, but... I believe Red_34, one of our Mods, takes it.
I know I just don't tolerate any NSAIDS, which makes pain relief so tough.

Serenity Now, that sure explains some things! I have been taking Glucosamine with MSM. Guess I need to get some straight glucosamine and try that. I bet the MSM is what was causing the problem.

Songlady, do you think the Asacol helps you at all with joint pain? My GI tells me it will, but I don't tolerate it. I have urgency issues with Asacol and increased D when taking it. I am tolerating Rowasa enemas pretty well though.

Also, may I ask, was your hip replacement due to having taken prednisone in the past? Just wondering -- I've had pretty bad hip pain for a long time, and I'm 42. I've been on and off steroids many times over the years and wondering if that's the reason for my hip pain. I've had x-rays, mri's etc, though and they tell me there is no arthritis. Hard to believe I have so much pain there but no bone loss.

I'm wondering if the glucosamine I tried last winter had MSM. And as I said, I was flaring anyway, so it may have in fact not caused me any issues.

Right, as Zippy said - sulfasalazine, "azulphidine" is the 5-ASA that helps with arthritis.

gingerdog, that's a good question, about the hip. I'd had knee pain for about 5 years, and gradually less and less range of motion, but was shocked when xrays showed hip arthritis and a completely healthy knee! (referred pain.) There was no cartilage and there were bone spurs and a bone cyst. The Ortho told me it all looked consistent with long-term long-ago pred use, but.... the other hip is fine, so who knows. (My mom had had similar hip issues but at a slightly later age.)
