I had been on 150mgs of Imuran the enitre time I was on Remicade, which was the higher dose every 6 weeks for about
2 years. The thinking behind using the 2 meds together is that the Imuran will help prevent your body from making antibodies to the Remicade. Which unfortunately, didn't work quite so well for me. I switched to Humria in January 2010. But, if you do the research, the statistics on leukemia & such are very, very, very low. Yes, the risk is increased, but cancers have mainly been found in male pediatric patients. So, it's a pro's vs. con's thing- I think the Imuran helped me more than the Remicade overall- I still take it, but at my last GI visit, we talked about
discontinuing it but have decided to wait a bit. You don't need Imruan with Humira, as Humira is "all human"... bad way to describe it, but.......
