I don't want to jinx myself but I am going to update my condition to heading into remission since I hope it will help others. I started with UP 10 years ago, and UC 6 years ago, a four year remission, and then UC up to 15cm at my last colonoscopy in December.
It's been about a month since I've last seen any blood. I've had a couple of false urges with just mucus in the last month, but those too seem to have gone away. My BM's are back to normal for me (2-3 times in the AM, mayber 1 in the afternoon).
I just want to thank this forum for the great advice and for helping me figure out different options for treatment. For me the mix of:
- A strong probiotic (VSL#3)
- Metamucil
- and Rowasa
- focusing on smaller meals to provide some consistency to the digestive system all day.
was the magic mix. I've used Rowasa independently for flares in the past over the past 10 years and this time around. Rowasa on its own never seemed to make everything go away. It eased symptoms, but never got my whole gut feeling better even after months of use. This mix, since I started in May, made me feel better within a week, and now I am starting to be completely symptom free for the past few weeks.
I also used consistently used some pain medication to ease my cramping during this flare which I've eased up on over the last couple of months. I found that very helpful as well.
I hope this helps others.
