We heard from a GI nurse that the biopsies were consistent with Ulcerative Colitis. So she asked how the med is working: It's working fine the bowel movements are not a frequent etc... So she said she would send some info in the mail and to keep on the drug. Period...no offer of an appointment to actually SEE the GI doc. This is Kaiser by the way.

So I pushed and finally got an appointment 6 weeks from now. Is it too much to aks to have a doctor actually sit down and talk to us about this instead of relying on my research on teh computer??? So pissed.

Wow, you should definitely have a GI that is willing to sit down and talk with you at length about any concerns you have about this disease. There are some very good doctors that work for kaiser; if this GI doesn't work for you then I would recommend you try to find another one. I can't imagine staying with a doctor who thinks its okay to say, "Yah it's UC, you'll get some stuff in the mail about it."

I don't know any way to avoid the ridiculous amount of time it takes to actually get an appointment. So frustrating to be sick and need medical advice only to be told you can't see the doctor for over a month. I wish you luck finding a practitioner that you like.

It's good you pushed for an appointment! sheesh...

What meds is your husband on? Where exactly in the colon is his UC...limited or throughout?

Being proactive in one's care is one of the best things to do...make sure you take that info to create questions for the doc so that your appointment can be most efficient.

As I mentioned in my earlier post his UC is throughout the colon from Rectum to Cecum. He is on sulfasalazine and has had a great response so far. He still has ridiculous night sweats and his weight has stablized.

I would strongly suggest your husband request rectal medications, especially mesalamine retention enemas (in US they are Rowasa, other countries known as Salofalk, Asacol, Pentasa)

Has he had liver enzyme testing done?

When your husband has night sweats...does he have a fever at that time?

He had a recent CMP which included liver enzymes which were all normal. He doesnt have a fever at the time. Just the sweats I thought that the UC was the answer to why.

I get night sweats too when I am flaring. it's awful!
