Anyone gained weight from canasa??

I have been on canasa for 3 months and it's keeping my uc under control but gaining weight not something I want. Any suggestions???

souldn't cause you to gain weight...but if you're not flaring, food calories may stick better...unless you aren't eating enough calories, your body can go into kind of a starvation mode where it slows down its metabolism.

I didn't gain weight till middle age, and I had to eat a lot of high calorie stuff to do so.

Look at more than just the Canasa...

I gain weight really easily - like, I can gain from looking at recipes in magazines.....but I've not gained from Canasa or Rowasa. I sometimes put on one or two pounds if I do a long course of steroid enemas.

I never gained weight from canasa. I have gained from Prednisone but I think nearly everyone does, especially if it's a long course. I gain when I feel well and lose when I am ill. Are you in remission? Maybe your weight gain is normal. Do you exercise?

They say I'm not in remission because still having cramping and urgency just thankful it's more under control. Ya I try to avoid taking prednisone it made my high school years hell people thought I was pregnant ugh it's awful! I have been told by my husband and family that I look good. Maybe I just have self esteem issues with my weight always fluctuating. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes I do exercise when I feel up to it, just hard to get motivated!

Yes, I am sick of looking blown up. I am sorry you're feeling bad about yourself. I know how hard it is and we are so self-critical. I also have no motivation and I am extremely tired, working out is difficult. I am sure you look great, we always think things are much worse than they are.

Hi there,
Whenever I have a flare I take Canasa, Rowasa and Asacol and the combination of drugs has never caused weight gain for me. I also have an underactive thyroid, so I hold onto weight and gain weight easily. When I have a bad flare, the most weight I ever lost was 10 pounds -- not much for someone who went on a liquid diet for many months. But, I never gained any weight. Hope this helps.

I don't think Canasa directly causes weight gain (not even sure how that's possible). Most people lose weight when flaring so it makes sense that if you begin recovery, you would gain weight.
