Prednisone side effects

Heptacampeâo, as for your tired legs, I'm positive it's a combo of things. Number one, your general fatigue. If I don't get sleep, my body (legs in particular) can feel tired. Not to mention, the prednisone weakens your muscles and bones. I get quivery, weak muscles from this stuff. You should seriously try some sort of light sleep aid (melatonin or Tylenol PM).

As a side note, during my first flare, I was moving apartments and ended up herniating a disc in my back. After 18 months of troubleshooting I had back surgery. Thankfully it was fixed 5 years ago and have no problems, but I definitely blame the prednisone for weaking my frame...and myself for not hiring movers! Lessons learned.

I've had no side effects while on prednisone. Perhaps it is because my highest dosage was 30 mg or I'm just odd. I wish I would gain a bit of weight because I am currently underweight from my flare.

I have absolutely no concern about the short-term effects of prednisone. These go away. It's the long-term effects that are the issue. We are born with only one body. Prednisone ages that body by aging the connective tissue. The long-term effects aren't always so noticeable either, because we are aging every day.

Let's say your eye pressure reading goes from 18 to 20, you might not even know it. Your eye doctor may not even tell you, because a reading of 21 is the cutoff number. So you don't realize that predisone has aged the connective tissue in your eyes. This is what happened to me. I know my eye pressure had been low a few years before taking prednisone, because I was told it was low. However, after taking prednisone, my eye doctor mentioned offhandedly that my reading was at 20. He said that some people naturally have a higher reading than others.

My doctor recently prescribed 40 mg for one week, 35mg the next and so on until I finished after 2 months. Two hours after I took the FIRST dose, I noticed a definite increase in needing to urinate. Throughout the day, I experienced an extreme sensation to urinate every ten minutes...and amazingly there was a fair amount each time. It was so maddening!! I was already visiting the facilities 40-50 times a day with my UC. I would have gotten much more work done in the bathroom as opposed to my desk as I am sure I was in there far more hours in the day than I was in my office.

I looked at the pamphlet that came with my prednisone prescription. An increased need/frequent urination was one of the serious side effects listed that warranted an immediate call to your doctor. I called my doctor that day, told her my symptom....she had never heard of it, and she sent me to the lab to get a urinanalysis to see if I had a bladder infection. I didn't. She then gave me a prescription for a lower dose of prednisone.

I never picked up the new prescription. I am certain that the prednisone was the reason for my increased need to urinate. I am well aware of all of the horrible side effects (that many of you mentioned) and know it MIGHT help me, but I have no desire to go back on it. Incidentally, my Lialda is starting to work and I am going to ride this Lialda thing for as far as it will take me. And if it fails...I will find something else besides prednisone to take.

i basically felt like an 89 year old woman. it was horrible. the one thing it did was apparently put me in remission... at least, that's what the colonoscopy said when i had it, but since i was on the prednezone at the time, that doesn't really say much...

I have been on Pred. for 25 years and have not had any real problems yet. I guess everyone is different. I have had the swollen face and some weight gain all of which is manageable. If you are on pred for a long time your should have your cholesterol checked as well as do a bone density test and heart checks every couple years.

Chris has a terrible time with the effects of the pred. the first time he took it at age 2 he spent the first few days spinning around in circles and slamming himself into the wall. he also has bad roid-rage both at the beginning of dosing and tapering, and suffers from physical withdrawl symptoms (hot and cold spells both in temp and feeling, lethargy, a little vomiting and sadness). though it does usually work for him, he's starting to get dependant/tolerant to it. he also has the tooth/mouth sensitivity.

Ive been on pred a few times, more than either me or my GP would like, but each time it has made an improvement to my symptoms after a just a few days. I always got a tooth abcess on either (I've two) crown while I was on pred.
Yeah the usual munchies which I was actually thankfull for! slight weight gain, a slight perd face (puffy face)..
Unfortunately this round of pred I was ordered to go for a bone density scan and it wasnt good results, my bones are thinning due to the predinsoline usuage.
Each time I was on pred I was never in 100% remission but certainly got a break from the symptoms.
