canker sores

I need to find a cure or even something that will help my CHRONIC canker sore flare ups. I get them every other week and we are not talking about just one - I consistently have about 6-10 1/4" size sore in my mouth at the same time. Right now I have only 2 small ones. But last week I had about 8. I hear people talking about UC- I don't even know what that is?? Could I have something like that & not know it??
These sores have been my source of suffering since I can remember. My mother said I had them when I was three. Anyone have a suggestion for these??

I have been to numerous doctors-lots of different topical & internal medicines- nothing works.



I could use any bit of help.

perhaps it's something you're eating...i find dark chocolate and nuts do this to me.  i swish water in my mouth immediately after eating things like these, and it seems to help ward them off.  hope that helps!

UC is ulcerative colitis, which sometimes does have canker sores as part of it So does UC's sister disease, Crohn's.

I used to get these a lot, and what has helped me more than anything has been changing my toothpaste to one without sodium lauryl (or laureth) sulfate. I read somewhere that it can cause canker sores in susceptible people, so I tried a new toothpaste, and it REALLY helped. Now, most toothpastes have that in it, so you have to read the label and go for a "natural" toothpaste. (Though not all natural toothpastes are SLS-free -- Tom's of Maine is a popular brand, but it does have SLS.) The two SLS-free I use are Peelu and Burt's Bees.

When I do get a canker sore, I have a couple of things from the doctor that really help shorten its duration: fluocinonide gel and something called "Magic Mouthwash," which the pharmacy has to mix up.

My advice is the same as MmeMulot's...toothpaste. My grandmother, her son (my dad) and I have suffered from canker sores as long as we could remember. My dad started using Rembrandt C...Specially Formatted for Canker Sores and recommended it to us. It has made a huge difference.
