Any colitis sufferers from Australia confused about the drugs overseas

Hey was wondering if there is any other colitis sufferes from australia on this forum. Alot of the guys on here are from overseas and the drugs they are using im not really sure about or if it is the same as my drug but called a different name. Do we all take similar drugs? Are they the same but different names?

azathioprine

mesalazine granules

pentasa

steroids

Can anyone tell me if they have a different name?

What is remecade?

So many different drugs  am lost and confused..................

I'm from Oz too! Drug names are confusing! Here's a rundown from what I can gather:
5AHA drugs include osalazine (dipentum), mesalazine (pentasa), mesalamine (asacol), Mesalamzine enemas (salofalk in Oz, rowasa in USA).
Azathioprine (Imuran) and 6MP are both immunosuppresents.
Remicade is a TNF (tumor necrsing factor) blocker.

Hi!
I'm in the US - osalazine (dipentum), mesalazine (pentasa), mesalamine (asacol, Salofalk in some places.).... and then Colazal (balsalazide)...
are 5- ASA drugs. Rowasa or Salofalk enemas are also 5-ASA. Canasa suppositories are in that category, too.

Mari is sure right about most of all that! And then there are steroids... prednisone, prednisolone, steroid enemas, cort-enemas......

I could be forgetting others, but there's a few more for the list, anyway!

Hi-- I'm in the U.S., but have blogged in the past with a forum member in Canberra, Knitty_Cat. She hasn't signed on in a while-- probably because she got her UC under good control with a couple of the 5-ASA meds. One thing she was using very successfully was mesalamine foam retention enema, which has never come on the market in N. America, where suppositories reign. You can likely look up her old posts here for more information. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Thanks Guys! that helps out heaps. Will make a difference now i know what people are talking about. It makes it hard when different countries have different names for things. @ days and im off for a colonoscopy....... Haven't been feeling great the toilet is my best friend at night time at the moment. Bring on wednesday so i know how bad things are at present...
