Colonoscopy on Tuesday 10/12

Called my GI and he moved it up from Nov 5.  I can't believe I am being so proactive this time. Normally I wait until I am driving to work sitting on a trash bag.

They almost gave me the jug of stuff to drink (GAG!) but thankfully I get the miralax again, woo hoo!  Funny the things that make me happy.....who knew?

 

My last colonoscopy They gave me this jug of fowl salty stuff. I was complaining to my mom who told me about her prep of miralax mixed with gatorade and dulcolax pills. I was very naughty and did not use the salty icky stuff and went and got the miralax and dulcolax instead. I went in for my colonoscopy and all was fine so it worked. I have to have a repeat one because of anemia  and once again I have no intentions of drinking that swill they gave me.

Besides, the foul salty ick would be hard on your kidneys. While you were away from the forum, one of the preps got removed from production for causing kidney issues & phosphosoda also came under scrutiny for similar reasons. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

 I discovered that when the miralax is mixed the night before there is no yucky flavor to it but the batch I mixed a couple of hours before drinking did have some aftertaste to it.

         I dont get why a doctor would want someone to have that awful tasting stuff when they have to know that the miralax works just as well. Last time I had one I asked the nurse and she just said sorry that is not the prep we use.

I can't remember the exact name of salty drink I had to take the day before my colonoscopy, but if I drank too much in one sitting or drank it too fast I had uncontrollable projectile vomiting <<shutters>>. Everyone says that the cleansing day is the worse, but I would have to disagree. I was so use to going to the bathroom like 30 times a day for months that the cleanse (besides the taste and making me vomit) was not even that bad compared to the HORRIFIC pain I endured during my 45 minute colonoscopy. I woke up in the middle screaming in pain because of the air they were inflating into my poor, tortured colon. The doctor said that he couldn't give me any more sedatives because my blood pressure kept dropping. I was able to fall asleep again towards the end and woke up to some very nice, ice cold cranberry juice waiting for me in recovery. I got up to put my clothes back on and then passed out due to my low blood pressure. My poor boyfriend took me to this and took care of me after. I don't have a lot of memory from that day but he said I insisted that we go to the pharmacy to get my scripts filled and while I was in the waiting area at the pharmacy I passed out again. Apparently I did some other questionable things after the procedure that are quite embarrassing! Such a terrible time in my life. Every time I think about the details of the past few months I always cry! I have lost all shame thanks to UC.
