I recently stopped taking my Asacal Prescript
ion. I was taking 9 pills a day since '05. I was diagnosed in April 04. I am also on Azasam since '07. Has anyone had issues when stopping your Asacal. I keep having loose stool. It's been two wks, and wk one was going good. This wk has been a different story. Any suggestions?

You really should reconsider going back on your Asacol. Loose stool sounds like inflammation.

I agree with journey. It sounds like you need the Asacol to maintain remission. Is Azasam a form of azathioprine? Is there any reason why you stopped?

Well, I think Asacol is used as a maintenance med so it may be that you need to stay on it. Perhaps once you get back to normal stools you could taper to 6 per day instead of staying at 9?

I would stay at nine and taper one pill every two weeks or so. I have my issues with Asacol like hair loss, but its more important to stay well

I agree. My doc said that I was doing well, so I shouldn't have issues, but this past wknd, I recognized that something wasn't right. I have a feeling I will be placed back on it. I much rather stay on the Asacol as a maintenance dose, rather than taking the Prednisone.
Has anyone tried the Probiotics before?

Just about
all of us on here are on probiotics. I'm not entirely sure if they help me, but I know they certainly don't hurt.
I'd call your doctor ASAP and let him know you're having symptoms. In fact, if you have some Asacol at your house, I'd probably go ahead and start taking it right away. I'm sure he'll agree that you need to be on it.

plus rectal meds...
and if you haven't been put on them drill the doc about
that!
Probiotics...a good thing, although the brands vary. I take what's in my signature.

Nice - i read your post and reached for the bottle of asacol on my desk that i neglect 30% of the time and took my dose.
Don't blame the drugs man, and asacol from all my research is pretty important.
I've read some dumb stuff about
it - like "I've been on Asacol for ten years and now I'm Balding!!"
-dude you're balding because you aged 10 years... not because of asacol
