suggestions before surgery

I get up about once a night. Twice if I eat before going to bed. It has become such a habit that it doesn't even faze me anymore. Your body learns how to tell when the bag is full.
It really depends on what I eat. I tend to drink Pepsi a lot now so that doesn't really help me, lol.
You can take immodium, though, if you don't want to wake up during the night. I do this if I have to take Nyquil because that stuff will knock me out for hours.

I can sleep on my stomach just fine now. I had to learn how to not lay completely on the bag but that was easy.

Hello! Reading all of your responses i can relate to so many of you and some of you have already said some of the things im going to say but to you DWAS, i can't even begin to tell you how happy i am after surgery! I got diagnosed at age 14 and was on 26 pills a day for 8 years and was never on remission(i was always having to adjust dosages and try different pills). I finally tried remicade and it worked but only for about 6 months and then it stopped working. I was so sick and only weighed 97 pounds at age 22 and 5'4" and so they did my surgery in 3 parts. My first surgery i was away from work for 6 weeks because i got blood clots after my surgery and i was in really rough shape prior to surgery. You NEED to get up and be active after your surgery. This was the main negative thing about my sugeries. My second surgery i was out of work for 3 weeks and my third i was only out of work for 2 weeks. I had a temporary ileostomy for a full year inbetween my first and second surgery and it wasnt that bad, i thought i would just keep it forever but my doctor talked me into getting a j-pouch. I did and my life is great! Really, i never thought i would enjoy life like this again. I was never depressed or anything but after UC for 10 years you get used to the pain, blood, diahreaa, urgency, pills, low residue diets, so on. Now, i eat what i want, i go to the br about 6-8 times a day but like Suebear said, you dont even notice that your going that much. When you do go, it literally takes as long as it would if you were going pee and its such a small amount. Mine isnt totally solid all the time and some food changes the consistency and how frequent i go. I can hold it for mostly as long as i want. I have never had any leakage or accident in the car or at night. I do take one imodium every night before i go to bed just to slow things down so i dont get up in the night. I get up usually once or twice in the night to go to the br. I am 25, ive had the jpouch for almost 2 years now. I just got married and bought a house and im so happy my life has turned around so much in the last few years. I wish that i would have gotten surgery sooner instead of spending years of my life with UC. Sorry i talked so much but i really want you to hear a good success story because i can only hope other fellow UC sufferer's can have what i have now! A new life without UC! Hope i helped :)
