So where are you now? I got a tummy bug when I was nearing remission using Asacol and mesalamine enemas (after a severe flare) and ended up having to use pred to get into remission.
(I'm not saying you need to be on pred, just relaying my story.)
Where are you in terms of symptoms right now?
Personally, i think it's a good idea to stay on rectal meds, at a maintenance dose, even when you are in remission. The oral meds don't reach the very end of the colon and rectum, where flares start. So using rectal meds keeps that area quiet. Studies show that people who use mesalamine enemas twice weekly, in addition to oral meds, stay in remission for longer than those who only use oral meds. I've been in a very solid, symptomless remission for over a year doing this. I think it's partly b/c I am using both oral and rectal meds, and partly b/c my UC seems to respond well to mesalamine drugs.
