It's the 22nd, no tree up, still have presents to wrap, no baking done.
My house has been undergoing major renovations for the past two months and it has only been in the last two weeks that I have had a somewhat "normal" mainfloor (the chimney is no longer hanging from angle irons and chains in the middle of the house). I have very little counter space to cook or bake (I am not Martha Freakin' Stewart anyway). My living room is in shambles and I have no place to put a tree. My beloved pets passed away four days apart in July so their stockings are still in the closet with the rest of my decorations.........I dug out my husband's stocking for him though. Dinner at my parent's Christmas Eve and then at my Aunt's on Christmas Day. I refuse to get stressed over what is supposed to be a joyous and peaceful time of year. I told everyone that if I didn't get presents wrapped that I was going to just throw everything in a pile and they could take whatever they wanted. LOL.
On Christmas Eve, one of my friends and I have a tradition: we dress up like Elves (fake noses and ears even) and run around our town like fools getting everyone excited for Santa. We start at the hospital and visit inpatients and the Long Term Care Facility. We then visit an Assisted Living Facility. Presents are delivered to all the patients and residents. We then have dinner with my family (traditional spaghetti dinner) and then we start visiting homes all around the town, getting the kids wound right up. It is so much fun and we are getting more and more requests for "Sparky and Tipsy" visits every year. Our presence was even requested at the town's Santa Parade this year. This is what is special about Christmas for me. To see the absolute awe in the kids' faces is priceless.
Oh ya, and I accepted an offer on my business on December 16 (it wasn't even for sale) so add all that to the mix.
2010 was the worst year of my life and I am honestly hoping to end it on a positive note. That can only happen if I am positive.
Take care everyone. Find something to make you smile this Christmas Season.
