Lialda Costs Skyrocketing?!

Hey all! So I order my Lialda through an online service with relations to my insurance company. I just got in my shipment today, to find that a 30 day supply now costs $75.00. Thankfully, that 30 day supply with last me around 60 days. But, I previously got 120 pills for the same amount. Does this happen often? It just seems like a huge jump to raise the cost so much!

I got a prescription card with samples from my GI and I only have a $10. copay with insurance for a month's supply @ 4 pills per day. I think it is only good through December of this year. Without insurance I believe Lialda is about $600-$700. a month. Ouch! See if you can get the card that comes with samples. Still, $75 is a deal compared to what you would pay without insurance.

I have an extra card if you want me to mail it to you. It is only good through Dec. 31 2010. You have to call and activate it and then just bring it in when you get your prescription filled. I am not sure how it works on online service. It might be better to just take it to a local pharmacy.

With the insurance I'm using through my parents it costs me $35 for the 120 pill bottle. Guess I should feel lucky then :)

I have been on Lialda for just over 2 years.

I just bought my first 2011 Rx from Walgreens (same place I have been buying it) and it was $109. Last year it was "only" in the mid-upper 80's. Both of these prices are with insurance and the Lialda discount card.

I need to find out if Lialda prices went up, Walgreens prices went up or my insurance coverage changed.

I also plan on checking with other pharmacies and calling my GI to see if he has some recommendations.

Other than bloating/gas (mainly after meals), Lialda has done me well.

I was mailed a new discount card, it's only $10..but hey, it's $10, so ask your GI, they should have them in the office. Or you could call for one.

I was actually mailed a new discount card at the beginning of 2010 (to replace my 2009 card).

My insurance (which is pretty good IMO) gets it down to $224, then the discount card maxes out at $120/month or $1,440/year. This brings it down to the $109 I paid today.

I wonder how your card gets it to $10?

My card gets me down to $10 because my max out of pocket with my insurance coverage is $20 per script. It all depends on your coverage.

It seems that price of brandname Colazal has been raised, also. Rumor has it that pharmas are increasing Rx drug charges across-the-board, and, of course, some attributions are being made to the 2010 health insurance reform law, specifically the section that gradually closes the "doughnut hole" Rx costs for retirees on Medicare Part D. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Jano437, Thank you so much for the link. My card expired with the end of 2010 and tomorrow is the last day I can use my prescription before I have to call my GI to renew it. I was wonder if I should wait to get a card from my GI with the new prescription or pay more tomorrow for my final refill. When you go to the link you posted you can get a temporary "card" right away until they mail you one. So it looks like I can get my refill tomorrow for $10. Thanks!
