Does expired Rowasa still work?

Lucky me that I haven't had a flare in so long that my upopened packages of Rowasa are expired...like in '09. Any idea how much effectiveness, if any, they have?

hmm, that's a long while...maybe calling the pharmacy is good to make sure.

better yet...call your doctor and ask for a prescription with refills..

Medication has an expiration date because the chemical compounds in it can break down and not be effective or become toxic.- That is the explanation my pharmacist gave me

Def ask your pharmacist or doctor, and let us know what they say!

my understanding is that it should still be good, but less effective.

If it was 2010 i would say maybe but from 09. I'd ditch it.

Thanks for the thoughts! I have four boxes that expired in 11/09 - I'm using it and having good results. I hate to call the GI because they won't give me anything if I don't come into the office (time and money). PS How do you get your "signature" included in the post?

If there's a batch number on it, you could possibly email the company to find out the expiry date of it.

I would probably get more, and maybe alternate between a new one and an old one. I would hate to waste them!
