Just had step 1 of jpouch surgery how long do the staples stay in , how long before you can drive, and how long after your release from hospital did you have to see the surgeon at their office for your first visit?

Hi Knahs1. Hope your recovery is going well and you're getting used to the new plumbing. My surgeon used stitches and some kind of glue to close me up so I'm afraid I can't give you an estimate on when the staples will come out.

My first office visit with the surgeon was a little less than 2 weeks after I was released from the hospital.

As for driving, my surgeon said I should be good to go as soon as I was off the pain meds, which was about 3 weeks from the date of the surgery for me. This one may vary depending on how the surgery was done, so I would double check with your surgeon to see what he thinks.

My son had his staples removed two weeks after surgery. I know some people have them removed sooner than that. He had his first follow up with the surgeon 6 weeks post surgery but he was actually in the hospital for almost three weeks after surgery so maybe that makes a difference. Driving is dependant on the type of pain meds you are on.
