Wellbutrin for UC?

Hi All!

I'm in the process of coming off Lexapro (wee! zap zap! - those who have been on an SSRI will get the joke) because it wasn't quite taking care of all of my symptoms, I suspect it might have been playing a part in some abdominal pain I've been having and I went on it while I was on prednisone so really I have no idea what my level of crazy is and needs are in that department at the moment. ANYHOO, I have been reading about Crohn's patients using Wellbutrin for their Crohn's because there is a TFNa blocking aspect to this medication. I'm thinking that if I do still need something Wellbutrin might be a good option for me because it could potentially kill two birds with one stone. Any thoughts, experiences, etc?

I was only on it for two weeks so maybe that short of a time didn't give me a chance to see if it would help my Uc or not, but for me personally, Wellbutrin made me an emotional basket case - which is why I was only on it for two weeks! lol

I've been taking Welbutrin for 10 years for depression. I had my first UC flare about 6 months ago. I don't see how Wellbutrin helped at all.

I wouldn't recommend taking this drug to treat UC. It is a bit of a stimulant and I have to take another drug at night in order to get a good nights sleep.

Thanks for the input about the sleep disturbances! I definitely don't need that. I'm a terrible sleeper as it is.

Wellbutrin made me feel crazy and I couldn't sleep. I take Lexapro now but I need to switch to something else too. Is it hard coming off Lexapro?

I did ok getting off Lexapro. the zaps lasted about a week and half. I'm still getting some bouts of the grumpies but over all I feel pretty good. It was a bit rough but compared to coming off prednisone it wasn't that bad. And interestingly, I am sleeping a lot better! I went on it while on pred so I had no idea how much it was disturbing my sleep!

I read that SAM-e is natural and can also benefit UC. But the type that is mentioned here is very hard to find.

Wellbutrin was an upper for me. Stayed pretty slim (Yay!). Unfortunately, it can make you feel wired and you can't sleep well at night.

I find Lexapro makes my brain feel normal and I can sleep. Yes, there is a weight gain factor, but it's good for my mental health
