Been lurking here for awhile. I was diagnosed last November after having suffered my first real flare - although GI said scarring visiable during colonoscopy indicated that I've UC for a longer period. I am currently on Apriso (4 daily all in morning) and Rowasa enema (generic) every night. Most of my symptoms - bleeding, diarrea, tenesmus - have all gone away. However, I still get bouts of rectal pain - like a dull ache - in the rectum. No other pain in the gut or anywhere else. At first, I was getting the pain when I slacked on the enemas, which i sometimes neglected to take having fallen asleep on the couch watching television. When I did the enemas nightly, the pain would go away. But now I'm finding that the pain is just basically there even when I take the enemas every night. BTW, I have no problem retaining the enema. Don't know what to do at this point or what to expect. I have my first appointment next week with my GI since being diagnosed, but he is not the best listener. I have found this site to be a great resource and thought I'd ask here. Does anyone else have this pain? What can be done about it? If I have only rectal pain but no other symptoms, what does this say about the intensity of the inflamation/degree of the flare? Thanks in advance - Joe
