Bleeding Frequency during Remission?

My GI back east made me believe that periodic bleeding was normal for "us"

After talking with TCM there are two types of bleeding:

- Lots of blood/mucus in BM/bowel/toilet paper = bad
- A streak of blood in the BM mostly on one side. Likely result of a fissure or internal hemroid. Makes sense.

I've had the 2nd a few times past few months, still in remission. If I had the first(which I have had in the past), I would't think I was in remissio

I would like to add that 90% of my bleeding went away after I started taking the probiotic Align. I don't think it's a coincidence either, if I stop taking them I start bleeding again and I've tested this several times. Maybe something for anyone with daily bleeding to look into.

I've taken Align and VSL#3 but don't remember a correlation with the bleeding a few months ago. I did just finish antibiotics for something unrelated last week, and I've had some bleeding the last few days, so maybe there's a link.

Kylaa..you're flaring again. ARe you on rectal meds?

I don't think friability would be considered remission.

Azathioprine only. I have absolutely no symptoms except for occasional bleeding, bowel movements are once a day and solid, and biopsies a few months ago showed no sign of disease at the microscopic level. My flares in the past involved gradually increasing frequency of bloody diarrhea up to 5 - 15 times a day, whereas this bleeding has been off and on (maybe 70 off and 30 on) for around six months. If this is a "flare" then I'll take it any day.

If by "rectal meds" you mean enemas, I've tried hydrocortisone enemas (8 - 9 years ago) and Rowasa (2 - 3 years ago), neither of which seemed to help.

I will say this-I was bleeding just about every day towards the end of last year. Small amounts, but consistent. My GI wanted to do a sigmoidoscopy and maybe prednisone. I was praying that it was best case just minimal inflammation limited to the rectum. The scope day came and there were no signs of active colitis (he didn't take any biopsies.) He found internal hemmies. They were mild and I never had nor have yet to notice they are there (except for the blood of course.) I started Preperation H suppositories and I'm doing much better, but still see blood, usually on the paper or a very small amount on the stool. It is usually on a day after not doing Rowasa which leads to harder stools.

Not trying to make anyone too complacent, but I would never have guessed I had hemmies. My GI also said you wouldn't believe how many scopes I do with people who have an established history of UC and I do a scope and find nothing but hemmrhoids.
