It feels like it is located in my rectum or maybe more so my anus. It is like someone stabs a needle there for a few seconds, then its gone; I almost jump from the sensation or it will cause me to tense up my butt muscles for a few seconds. But it hurts quite a bit, maybe almost a hot sensation as well. Like a hot poker.. haha!
Has anyone else experienced this? ... I don't think I have hemorrhoids... But it usually happens a few times a month, kind of weird?
Thoughts? I am just curious... I don't think it's anything serious.

I've never had sharp pains like this, sounds serious to me, especially if you're in remission. Did you mentioned to your GI?

I understand, I have had this happen over the years. They hurt but I always thought they were some sort of spasm. Don't last really long usually, so I don't remember to mention them to dr.

Yes I've had these symptoms - they never stay for long. I assume it's all part of the rich tapestry of colitis!
UC can effect the colon from the rectum right across the transverse colon so it would appear to be part of this. My UC symptoms have improved over the past few weeks so I am hoping that the feelings are part of the overall improvement process!!
More recently I get a hot sensation when doing a BM or releasing wind. Someone on here mentioned that when UC starts improving, it does it backwards e.g. away from transverse colon back towards the rectum - I'm hoping this explains the hot sensations.

That is called proctalgia fugax (rectal spasms). This happens even in healthy people and there is no known cause. I remember a few times when my daughter was younger, she would gasp and grab her butt. She would dance around saying "Ow, ow ow" but giggle at the same time. If they continue for more then a few seconds, sometimes just by pressing on the rectal area can interrupt the spasm.

I had them periodically through my life but i can say that i had them worse right before i was diagnosed with proctitis. The pain shoots unexpectedly and makes you feel like your going to hit the roof!
