Hi Gavriel, I mean no disrespect as I ask you this question: Have you even read all of the posts in this thread? It appears you have not. If you did, you would realize I have been off medication for the first time in over 4 years thanks to this diet. Countless others have done the same.
If you are so concerned about how ridiculous the very notion that this diet can heal inflammatory bowel disease then state your proof my dear Gavriel. You prove nothing by saying this is an absurd and unworthy topic to tackle. There are many scientists that are investigating the role that diet plays in ulcerative colitis, is what they are doing absurd and unworthy? How about the scientists investigating the role of bacteria in the gut in relation to ulcerative colitis? Boy, they must be crackpot 9-11 was an inside job conspiracy nuts.
Outside of your mud slinging in this thread, almost all your posts you are aggressively pushing Remicade as the only real solution for UC "patients." By the way, why are you calling us patients? Are you a doctor? Most people here don't call each other patients. You also said "I am sympathetic to your condition." Strange wording again. I don't doubt you have UC. If you say you have it, I take your word for it. I am highly suspicious of your Remicade is the only "safe solution" posts and how you refer to us as patients. Don't take this the wrong way but I have to ask; do you work for Centocor? Why is Remicade the only safe solution? Why not Humira? Why is everything else dangerous or non-sensical if it is not Remicade?
Also, again, I don't think it's too much to ask that you actually read all the posts in this thread before responding. Please read the posts and point out what you disagree with. If you don't think this topic is worth a serious rebuttal then I don't think it is rude of me to ask you to stop replying here and reply to threads that you believe deserve a serious rebuttal. All the best to you.
Your six-month remission, while great to hear, means very little. I have also had six-month remissions off of all medications... and the flares always come back. I hope you are able to stay in remission forever without any medications, whatsoever... but I think deep down you know as well as I do that you will flare again. You will learn your lesson as many of us have. You seem to want to learn the hard way. Your suggestions that I am some undercover online drug-pusher working for a pharmaceutical company imply that you have much more in common with conspiracy nuts that you might want to believe.
I never, ever implied that it was silly to examine correlations and perhaps even causation between diet and the effects of UC on our health. What I clearly stated, which I stand by because it is based on simple concepts of biochemistry as related to digestion and UC, is that there is absolutely no reason to think that the vegan-diet makes any sense as a treatment towards UC in any way. I'll say it again, it is so ridiculous as to be completely unworthy of a response. Any benefit that someone may derive from a vegan-diet has nothing to do with the diet being vegan, and can only be explained by others things. For example, perhaps the UC-patient previously consumed some bad food(s) or combination of bad-food(s) that is no longer permitted by the vegan-diet. So, any benefit experienced by the patient would be by virtue of the elimination of some hazardous/problematic food or combination thereof. I won't waste any more time on this nonsense.
As far as other safe medications: they include Asacol (which has a decent success rate and is worth a try), and Humira. No drug is without risk, but Remicade and Humira are at the top of the short list of low-risk medications with high rates of success for those suffering from UC.
