Calling someone an addict because they don't want to follow your ridiculous diet is being respectful? Wow, I'd hate to see how you act when you're disrespectful then. Your condescending attitude is also disrespectful.

Gavriel -- It is good to have you on the forum. I agree with all you are saying, and it is nice to have someone so knowledgable here.

GI2MR takes ages to resopond or at least it did when i was on there. rawfoodsupport is really good. Its vegan only. doent take long to activate your account

I have to agree with Sara on this one. Follyism, I'm so SO happy for you that you found something that's working for you but honestly, you come off as looking down your nose at people who aren't following a similar diet. Don't get me wrong, I think your should share your ideas because there maybe someone else who's UC will respond as yours did! But the throwing around the idea that for anyone who didn't have success MUST have not attempted it correctly? hrm...

i think that i did do alot of things wrong. i had alot of trouble with just sticking to one thing and when i did it really made me feel like my sugar levers were just going to explode.

Dont get me wrong though. im still a supporter of the idea. i did see alot of benifits. I had touble keeping it simple and that is what follyism is doing.

eating alot of bananas is not as ludicrous as one thinks. they have all the amoino acids and are a protine as far as i know, they have alot of nutrients and more nutrients than our cooked foods which we cook all the nutriets out of. they will keep you much healthier than pastas; white breads, chcolate bars, cakes and fast foods. there is no nutients in thoes foods.

follyism if you are in 100% full remission free of this horrible illness and medication good on you. Well done. I think that is brilliant.

Bananas certainly do not have all the amino acids our bodies need to acquire through diet. It is also quite broad to suggest that they will keep us "healtheir than pastas, white breads" or other foods. Yes, bananas are certainly nutritious and generally a safe bet for most of us suffering with UC, but they are absolutely not the backbone of any responsible diet - they are simply a component of a greater mosaic. The fact remains that a diet recommending that we obtain virtually all of our calories from bananas is ludicrous and unsafe. Assuming follyism is experiencing a relief in his symptoms, then of course I cannot help but be happy for him and hope that this relief continues as long as possible. It is ingrained in me to be happy for any UC-patient who experiences relief - how could I not be when I suffer from the same illness and completely understand? What I absolutely reject, however, is the idea that somehow his diet is responsible for his recent period of period, and that such a protocol be followed by others. We all must remember that UC tends to be characterized by both symptomatic and asymptomatic episodes, with or without treatment. Going into a six-month episode of feeling better simply doesn't mean much - that's the sad truth, as fantastic as it is that follyism is currently feeling much better. Lastly, the diet is absolutely unsustainable and unhealthy in the long-term.

I thought the original poster of the "Banana Topic" was merely trying to get a discussion going about different diet approaches, specifically a vegan diet/raw diet/fruit diet. I never took the "eat 30 bananas for 30 days" seriously. Anyone who uses the internet regularly should know how to go and do their follow-up research if they are interested in something. I actually felt another poster was rude and argumentative. I don't think it should be any members job to go around attacking everyone who does not follow the standard Western tradition. After all, many of us integrate non-tradtional approaches into the traditional approach. My suggestion is to lighten up and use common sense.

I'm quite confused. It was Fruit Girl who said to Follyism

According to this post, Follyism did not call someone an addict because they didn't follow her diet. It was Fruit Girl who mentioned the word "addicted" first.

It really seems to me that there are a few people bashing Follyism just because they don't agree with her alternative treatment. Even Sara is using the words "ridiculous diet." Why the bashing? And why aren't the moderators doing something about the bashing, such as telling those who are doing the bashing to stop?

I wouldn't be surprised if this topic does get closed, not due to the original poster writing about her experience, but because of all the bashing, such as saying "needs help" and "off their rocker." It's a shame.

I absolutely did NOT bring up the word addict/addicted first. It's quite possible the thread I posted in has been heavily edited by the mods and that several posts were deleted...that sometimes happens even after a thread has been locked. Or, the word addicted could have been previously mentioned in one of the other threads that was started about the fruit only diet.  Please do not accuse me of things I did not do.

As most of you know, I have had Uc for 19 years. And over the course of those 19 years I have learned to make my own path. To find something that works for me. I also think I am a reasonably intelligent individual that can make my own decisions based on my own common sense. I feel the same way about all of you. I happen to think you are all intelligent individuals and can decide if certain approaches are going to work for you or not. Sure there may be some diets out there that we do not approve of, but how can you make your own path if you don't decide to try it for yourselves? Live and learn. I have had to do it and I have faith that you all will too. This can also be said for ALL aspects of this disease - medicinal or alternative.

Red_34, I am in agreement with you as I stated above in this thread. Part of being on the internet is learning to decipher information, do lots of research, and make personal choices.

I think the Vegan Cure thread and the Banana thread have been twisted together. I actually find the Vegan Cure thread more argumentative then the Banana...

For the record, I personally don't care how others treat their UC. Like Sherry said, we can all make our own decisions how to treat our UC. We're all adults and have the right to do that. I may think a particular treatment is weird or grody, but oh well. I was just standing up for those of us who choose to use Western meds as I felt there was some bashing of that choice in the thread.

Didn't mean to offend you Fruit Girl. I was just feeling that people were bashing Follyism, all because they don't agree with her treatment. It's okay if we don't agree, but we (saying we in general, not talking about you here) shouldn't be bashing the original poster and then demanding the post be closed.

I think the problem is that some people who like the natural treatments better have a superior attitude about not using Western meds, and that some people who use Western meds think that people who don't use them are nuts. When people can't respect other's choices, it causes conflict.

there was a post in which eating cooked or processed foods was akin to being addicted to cigarettes. I think that may be where the original addiction part came in

The problem isn't between alternative and mainstream meds...the problem is with suggestions that are way off the wall.

And I think that an idea can be stated by others as ridiculous. The bashing personally is another aspect, and that's when all the back-patting, defenses and attacks start.

Support the ideas...or...don't support them. If it gets out of hand...please lock the thread so we can move on.

well ill have to stick with my low sugar. It seems to be helping me alot especally as im a bleeder and i havent had any bleeding which is a big deal for me .  Im doing an anti candida course and am in the middle of it. As im not very good at sticking with things im going to stick with this and see how it works for me. I find if you you keep switching things it is not good for your body you just confuse it.

I understand completely, but it saddens me that so many people, out of ignorance and/or desperation, will make irresponsible choices that will likely lead them to needlessly suffer and perhaps cause irreversible damage to their bodies - as well as losing precious time. Yes, I know people must learn on their own, but I just wish some of them didn't have to learn the hard way due to irrational phobias concerning conventional treatments and unfounded belief in witchdoctor practises (Chinese "medicine", for example).

Yes. You did. They were in hisi "vegan cure" thread. He called me an addict several times because I eat cooked food.
