fish oil supplement beneficial?

Did I read that taking a daily fish oil supplement is NOT good for UC? I currently take one tsp a day (liquid) fish oil...should I not be taking it?

Any other supplements to live by with UC?

there are different medical studies with different results.
if you'll do a search on this forum you will find them

for me it made me feel worse. for others either there no visible benefit or they say it helps.

I'm certainly not sold on it for UC...I think I'm sensitive to most of them, maybe because of the concentrated oil content? I've found a very low dosage one that I've been trying for the past month. I at lest don't have SBS (slippery butt syndrome).

I think it can exacerbate urgency and diarrhea...I would caution some who might be having synptoms and are on a high dosage of fish oil to nix it for a while to see if it improves.

I don't know Q, having a slippery butt might be a good thing. Anything that can help stool slide easily through the gut may cause less abrasion on the inflamed areas?

Well...not for me. Nor for diarrhea. But, if one has constipation and a non-inflamed butt, it's a good thing. Constipation with an inflamed butt...less likelihood for a stool to be retained.

Perspective. I, for one...don't like SBS..lol..but so far, no problems with the one I'm taking.
Maybe it's the balance. Too much is just that.

I take one fish pill every morning. Always have even before UP.

Fish oil is good for people (if it is processed minimally) because we are supposed to be consuming fish oil (and other animal fats) with our natural diets. Fish oil by itself is not going to help, if you are still eating garbage. (Grains, sugar, etc.)

My Doc told me a few years ago that fish oil was being studied as a treatment for UC.  He recommended fish oil capsules that contained EPA.  I have been taking Mega Twin EPA fish oil for probably 5 years (550mg EPA).  I can't say that it has had any therapeutic effect but fish oil seems to have other benefits, so al things considered, it seems like a good thing.
