Ok, I called Lily of the Dessert Co and asked questions concerning aloe vera and colitis. Here is what I found out-- and hes the info out there is confusing and conflicting. George's and Lily of the Dessert are the two popular ones that come up. I had recently purchased the Lily of the Dessert Gel, but now I won't be taking it anymore because of the carrageena (sp?) which is illegal on the SCD diet as a thickening agent. Because of the laxative effect, the ONLY type to use is;
Lily of the Dessert INNER FILLET JUICE- this has less of the component to cause diarrhea than any other on the market including Georges which is not pur aloe but a distilate.
To take it, start with a tablespoon 15-30 minutes before a meal. Many people take it with 1000mg glutamine as well, such as a capsule or the powder in the aloe juice. Work up to 1 oz. per day. Work up then to as much as you wish to drink. If you get diarrhea for any reason when starting, reduce the amount to a level that doesn't cause this effect and increase more slowly.
These are the instructions from the company and this is what I am going to be doing here. I have a bleeding issue that I cannot get control of so I hope I can get some relief with this. Also, it is not recommended as an enema for colitis because as an enema is an acid which can be irritating to some, but to drink it is the way to use it. For anyone trying the Vitamin E enema for bleeding, remember that Vitamin E is a blood thinner which can promote bleeding and it would be absorbed at the site of bleeding although an excellent anti-oxidant. Taken orally could also be a problem when active bleeding is an issue. I am using flaxseed oil, coconut oil, and cod liver oil for my oils.
