Flare symptoms?

Just a question for everyone, when heading for a flare, are your symptoms always the same? I know that everyone has different symptoms but are your symptoms always the same for you? That is to say, if your first flare saw blood and mucus but no increase in urgency or pain, when heading for another flare should you expect to simply see blood + mucus again without urgency and pain? or could urgency, pain (or both) now come into the mix?

      When I suffered with UP (no more since surgery last June), my first symptom was always mucus in the stool.  When I saw that smhair .....I knew I was in for it.  What followed was blood, urgency and cramping...ugh.

The first 10 years with UC, flare always started out the same. The last flare, which resulted in surgery, started with diarrhea. I'd never had diarrhea as a UC symptom prior to that. So, I think it can be unpredictable.

Yes, so far, my flares always started with mucous and some blood. If I act right away with enemas, I am able to control it and things have not progressed to D or pain. But I agree that this disease is unpredictable, so if you see any new signs like pain and urgency on top of bloody mucous, it probably is the beginning of a flare.

I've only had two flares, long flares, but they were different. The reason was though because my colitis was spreading so my second flare was more severe.

Flares can be different for me.

For the first 20 years, I had no pain except maybe during a BM while flaring.
My flares tended to start with multiple loose-ish stools, blood, and gas. Now sometimes my first clue is lower abdominal pain for a few days.

I have finally discovered, in the past few years, that upping the meds (rectal meds, probiotics....) as soon as I'm aware of the symptoms does help me. I no longer wait and see "in case it's just random GI symptoms." It rarely is, for me.

continual mucus, increased bms, gas that is difficult to expel, stomach discomfort continually, urgency and the clincher of rectal cramping/pain upon bms.

Bleeding definitlely isn't a first symptom for me.

If you're having continual anything...up your rectal meds to the enemas, up the probiotics and fibre if you have.

My first flare started with gas and a little blood and gradually got worse. The second one was much more aggressive. It began with cramping, D and pain, not too much gas. It was almost as if all of the less severe symptoms were skipped and I was throw right into a severe flare.
