I was diagnosed with C diff colitis. I've been bleeding for about 2 months now. In the mist of this my eyes starting hurting and turning blood shot. I went to the eye doctor yesterday and he said there was no inflammation and they're fine, even though I'm having blurred vision and floaters.

Anyway, my question is.. I've been on Flaygel for the C diff and I think it might be making my eyes hurt more (my GI said it doesn't cause eye pain but I know what I feel) and the bleeding hasn't really gotten much better. She did call me in a prescription for vancomycin, so I'm wondering if I should just stop the Flaygel and start the vancomycin. She did seem to not want to wright the prescprtion but I told her the Flaygel makes me sick, so she did reluctantly. Would that be bad or would it not matter that I would be switching right in the middle of Flaygel?

I don't know about switching but I've heard vancomyacin is a much better drug for treating C Diff but it's more expensive and dr's don't want to overuse it because eventually these bacteria build up resistence to these medications. Can you ask your pharmacist about stopping the flagyl and starting vancomyacin? It sounds like your GI doesn't agree with your desire to get off Flagyl so she may not be too forthcoming with information. I don't like when doctors act that way, they should take their patients needs into account. Maybe it is time for a 2nd opinion? I also have bad side effects from flagyl, it makes me nauseaous and dizzy.

It could be iritis (aka uveitis) which is part of the auto-immune UC disease along with arthritis and the like.
I've never had it but my well-informed family doctor told me about it. Perhaps your eye doctor isn't up on UC related eye problems (but should be).

And your GI doctor of course should be suspicious of the connection. It's treated several ways including steroid eye drops.

If you do have iritis and your GI didn't pick up on it that's not a good doctor IMO.

I have no experience with Flagyl so can't offer advice there.

I'm going to ask the pharmacist when I go in about switching the meds.
I did go to the eye doctor yesterday and he said that some people with UC get iritis but I didn't have it. Well, my UC isn't flared up right now but my colon IS inflamed and bleeding from C diff so I asked if that could be causing my eye problems and he said no. Well, then how do I explain my eyes being perfect and now having problems ONLY after this all started. Ugh I'm so frustrated. My eyes just seem to be getting worse as the days go on but he said he didn't see anything abnormal except some floaters.

There has got to be some reason my eyes are going crazy but I can't get any answers. I'm getting SO fed up with doctors!
