Fecal Transplant - think I'm going to try it

Plan is to start tomorrow, depending on my daughter. I will get the supplies tomorrow morning, and if all goes according to plan, should have my first "treatment" tomorrow night. Bit nervous, bit excited, bit grossed out - lol.

Wonder what I should do about my Entocort enemas? Not sure I'll be able to do both....

tip#1 - do the clean out first. my initial start ended up coming right back out. lost probably 200ml...
tip#2 - messy. be prepared with waterproof pads, gloves etc.
tip#3 - make sure the enema isn't set too fast. I would have lost less, I think had I started slower.

lying down and waiting to see how long I can hold it.

It might be better to use less. I used only about two syringe's worth (which is one syringe worth of poo), far less than the amount in an enema. I remember that the first time I did the protocol, I was having diarrhea. The fecal transplant stopped the diarrhea, and I didn't go poo until 12 hours later. I had forgotten about that until you mentioned you are having trouble holding it in.

Omigod,,,,, I hope this works for you panda mom,,,, I've been wanting my son to do this, but he is a little freaked out over it.
He just had to have surgery for a anal abcess,,and he is in misery now...so maybe he may re think it if it works. I wish we could

How did it go for the subsequent transplant for the next few days. Did you go back to eating, and were you able to hold it in?

The syringe holds about 10 ml. (Wow! I still have the syringe!) I used about two syringe's worth. So that's a total of 20 ml (about 1/5 of what you are using), of which 10 ml was poo and 10 ml was water. I was always able to hold it in. In fact, the transplantation kept me from having to go poo so often.

The reason for using so little was that the first time I tried the fecal transplantation protocol, I was only able to get that much. My granddaughter was six months. Although it looked like a lot of poo on the diaper, it really wasn't.

The first time I did fecal transplantation:

I noticed a difference after one treatment.
Improvement was remarkably fast. After three treatments, I was in remission. No bleeding. No mucus. Normal poo.
I was eating normally.
Before the transplantations, I was bleeding quite heavily at 25 mgs of pred.
I did three treatments over three days.
Each time I used 20 ml (10 ml water, 10 ml poo).

The second time I did fecal transplantation:

I noticed a difference after a couple of weeks.
Improvement was gradual.
I was on an anti-inflammatory diet and avoiding foods/beverages high in fructose.
Before the transplantions, I was fighting off minor flares (due to having taken antibiotics).
I did two treatments over a few days.
Each time I used 20 ml (10 ml water, 10 poo).

Hi Subdued, I was wondering..how ofter do you do FT now? How long does it or has it kept you in remission?

 

Missed today. My daughter didn't go.

I know we are meant to use the donation right away in an ideal world, but would it still be okay to use a few hours later? Better to use that than not at all?

I ask because I may use a 3 year old.
Was it, too little, too much etc.

I only used a tiny bit of it. Since 10 ml of poo worked the first time, I didn't see any reason to use more than that. It is probably going to contain as many strains of bacteria. The strains should multiple if the transplantation is successful.

My problem was that I had been abusing antibiotics. More likely than not, the antibiotics killed off many strains of bacteria. So I was most concerned with getting more strains of bacteria by using feces from someone who had never been on antibiotics than on getting more bacteria of the same strains.

I would think the longer the mixture stays inside the body, the greater likelihood of the bacteria taking hold and multiplying.

Same here. I could only get that much because my granddaughter was so young.
So, yes, I too was amazed.

just a tip mompanda....to make it easier.

Rub vicks vapour rub under both nostrils, and wear a surgeon's mask
also, in addition maybe considering wearing goggles as well.

Vicks vapour rub is what coroners put under there noise before they examine
a dead body. That with the mask & all you will smell the whole time is the vicks.

No luck for Day 5. My daughter didn't go. Is it wrong to be jealous of your own child? lol. I wish I could only go once every day or 2!

I won't be able to do it tomorrow night either as I am starting a "Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction" (meditation) 8 week course.

I may try again for a few days next week. We'll see how it goes.

Will let you know if there are any significant changes.
