Hi,
My name is Lucy. My son has Crohn's and is currently in a flare. Took Entocort, 9 mgs, for a month, doesn't help and is switching to Prednisone at the moment.
His GI prescribed him today small bowell series.
Please, share with me if you have any experience with it. Is there a chance to make the current flare worst?
He suffers with D and weight loss.

Lucy, you might want to check out the Crohn's forum here at HealingWell.

I've done a couple of small bowel series and I don't remember them making my flare any worse. It's not a very pleasant experience, drinking all that barium solution. I was worried more about tossing my cookies than any diarrhea during the procedure.

No, and if your son has diarrhea, the contrast might give him a break; it's supposedly constipating. The test is not painful or uncomfortable. He might not like the taste of the contrast, I didn't mind, but others complain about it.

I had one of these done while I was in a full flare. They did this test so they could rule out Crohns for me. I don't recall having any ill effects from the test. I just took a long time...like 3 hours if I remember correctly.
