Hi, I hope everything goes well for your surgery.
I had my surgery about 3 and 1/2 years ago and I feel fine now.
I thought about having it all out and going with the j-pouch but the surgeon gave me another option, because the lower part of my colon looked normal and healthy.
They spared the rectum in my surgery so they didn't have to create the pouch but
pulled the end of the ileum past the top of what they left and did a side anastomosis.
My gastroenterologist called it a kind of modified j-pouch.
I was 54 when I had my surgery so hopefully you'll recover a little faster.
My problems were at the other end of the colon though, in the ascending colon.
Most of the time I feel almost normal now.
I've been living in China for the last year and can even tolerate some of the spicy foods.
Again, the best of luck to you.
