I just saw an interesting video on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuK702UWeP8 A GI doctor from the Mayo Clinic says that it has been shown that people with UC live longer than the general population.  He believes this is due to the fact that people with UC in general have stopped smoking are have never smoked.  I stopped smoking in March of 2008 and was diagnosed in September of 2008.  If I thought I could cure this awful disease by starting smoking again I would.  I know this sounds crazy but look at the video and tell me what you think.  Patches anyone?

I think most doctors hate admitting it - but research clearly supports the idea that if someone develops UC within approx 6 months of stopping smoking, going back to tobacco will speed remission. Smoking obviously brings lots of health risks but some UC sufferers have reported good results with patches or the 'artificial cigarettes' that deliver nicotine without the harmful products. Search the threads and there are options that may help you.

I agree with Suenew61, however regarding the 3rd post in this thread:

Would people please list the people that died of lung cancer they know?

Why is it lung cancer exploded after all the nuclear testing and why is it Greece has a lower lung cancer rate than the Polynesians and yet they smoke way more?

Why does 50% of women who have lung cancer never smoked?


If smoking is harmless and smoking ‘cures/helps’ UC then why did you quit smoking? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but no one is entitled to spread their own personal 'facts' that have no correspondence to reality. Please get real.

My Grandfather died of lung cancer - he smoked for over 60 years. That is one person I know very dear to my heart that has died from smoking. But I have seen the after math of smoking as well, including emphysema such as my father in law. And no, I am not anti-smoking because I believe you can do what you want with your own body...it's your choice.

my mom died of lung cancer in her 50's. never smoked in her life. My GI told me that she knows way more people with lung cancer that never smoked comparing with smokers.

my dat died of hearth attack in his 50's, heavy smoker, at least 20 cigs a day.

Who says smoking does not hurt us is ignorant in my opinion. It doesn't have to be lung cancer everytime...

P.S. I am a (heavy) smoker, now smoking e-cigs.

My grandfather was a heavy smoker. He did not die of lung cancer. He died of a heart attack at the age of 50 from smoking too much. His doctor warned him, but he did not listen.

I still remember their house. The cigarette smoke made everything dirty and smelly. My grandmother moved to a new house after he died. It was so much more inviting.
