Suprep - has anyone tried this new prep?

I also did Suprep on 3/14. I thought it tasted like Imodiam AD and stood at the sink for an hour taking small sips til gone. (I like the idea of putting it in the fridge for next time). I thought it was much better than what my husband did with his "normal age 50 colonoscopy" and drinking it all day. I started mine at 5:00 p.m. (not eating all day) then again started at 6:00 a.m. for an 11 a.m. proceedure...the taste was bad..but think it was better than what he had to go thru

can't you take the pills anymore as a prep?

Yes, it is very important to stay hydrated when doing a prep for a scope. I was so full from the water and the prep on my last scope, I wasn't even hungry to tell the truth. And yes, it is nothing solid the day before the prep - clear liquids only. The ole standby is jello but personally, I HATE jello so I made do with lemon Italian Ice.

Kate, no they stopped using the pills because it can cause kidney damage. A bummer too because I had the Osmoprep pills once and it was so much easier.

I had my first colonoscopy a little over a month ago. I used the Suprep and I thought it wasn't bad at all. I'm a totally nervous and paranoid patient so I was concerned that I would have a problem with it but I didn't. It tasted sort of sickeningly sweet. The first does went down better than the second only because when I did the second dose, I had remembered how terrible it tasted. But I did it with no problems. I have proctitis and I had been having a lot of blood with BM's so I was nervous that the prep would cause me to bleed more. It didn't. I had no bleeding, cramping or mucous at all while doing the prep. It was easy to chase it down with the recommended water after each dose just to get the taste out of my mouth. All in all, it was not a bad experience.

Yes, it's sweet......it reminded me of fruity cough syrup. If you're afraid of the salty preps, try asking the doc for the Ducolax/Miralax prep. Ducolax is a tiny pill, you take so many of those and the Miralax is tasteless.

I'll undergo a colonoscopy in two weeks, and I was very delighted when the instructions came yesterday and my prep is the Ducolax/Miralax combo - the easiest prep I've ever used.

I still have nightmares of the preparations I'd to use 30+ years ago.

 I just got done with my 2nd colonoscopy in 4 years. The colonoscopy I did 4 years ago was a success but the prep was a terrible extremely salty tasting prep that I had a hard time with. I was happy to find out that there were many different preps available and I chose to try the Suprep. Unfortunately I don't have any trust in the taste of preps after my experience 4 years ago. I decided well before I did another colonoscopy that I was going to go outside the box and do something different. I am not saying this is for everyone but it worked for me.

Basically, I stopped eating solid foods a full 48 hours ahead of my procedure instead of the 24 hours that is required. I drank apple juice ,coffee and lots of water in the first 24 hours and it helped me have my normal bowel movements. I then did the first part of the Suprep the night before my procedure and before I went to sleep 4 hours later I was having clear bowel movements. My procedure was at noon the next day and I decided not to take the 2nd bottle of Suprep since my bowel movements had been clear since the night before. I had no complaints from the doctor that I wasn't cleaned out so I am assuming it worked. 

I want to stress that this was strictly my idea and no doctor or nurse told me or even insinuated to do this. I just decided to try it and it worked for me. I was hoping that not eating 48 hours ahead of my procedure would limit the amount of the prep I would need and luckily it worked for me. The apple juice and coffee really helped to curve my hunger and it seemed like once I got past the hunger pains in the first 24 hours the second 24 hours were downhill.

P.S. I did not feel sorry for the Chinese buffet that we went to after my procedure was done

I just took the first dose of Suprep about 45 min. ago.    Nothing yet.    I must say ... last time I took the "Glycol" stuff and even though Suprep is less fluid, the taste is wayyyyyyyyy worse.    It's a combination of berry flavored, bitter, salty poison!!!    A child would know enough not to drink this.     

If you pat with toilet paper, wipe with a baby aloe wipe (not regular toilet wipes) and use Vaseline, tush doesn't get sore.    At least so far.

Also ..... Propel has vitamins, etc. and isn't as salty as Gatorade.    I wouldn't drink Gatorade last time and I got the shakes really bad.   This time I got Propel and it tastes really good and has all the good things you need to get through this.

Think I will have some coffee I made, and then some broth.

I am getting a colonoscopy tomorrow. I did the suprep but I couldnt finish the 2nd bottle. i read all of your responses and I am hoping this is going to work for me. When you all say that you were going clear is that like water clear? I am still running to the bathroom but my stool is not real clear its go like a yellow tint to it. I was just wondering if that was okay and what you guys meant! lol

Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE DOSES TOO CLOSE TOGETHER!!! I was instructed by my Doctor's office to take Suprep the day before my Colonoscopy. I was told to take 1 dose at 4pm and the second dose at 8pm and to not have ANYTHING after midnight.
The Suprep instructions clearly state to take the second dose 10-12 hrs after the first dose.
I did as my doctor instructed, trusting they knew I would be okay. I violently vomited and broke out in hives. I had to cancel my colonoscopy. Today is the day after going through this. I feel dizzy, nauseous, and still have some bumps on my face. I called the manufacturing company of Suprep and they stated that taking the doses so close together definitely caused the vomiting. Unfortunately, for me, when I vomit something I can never have it again or I will get sick again from just the smell of it. I will never take this again.
The first dose went very well and I had no issues. Bottom line, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer and you should be fine. Unfortunately, I thought my Doctor's office knew what they were instructing and I followed their "professional" opinion. So, if they tell you like they told me, advise them of what you've read here.

I used suprep for my last scope and had no problem with it. I chased it with crystal light lemonade and it took the taste right out. I think I took the first dose at 5pm then the second at 10pm. Had the scope at 7am the next morning and all was good. It also helped to keep the bottles of suprep. I was really nervous before but it was fine.

Wow... this kind of sounds like a mixed bag on opinions! I just got back from my GI and was told to get Suprep for my colonoscopy and decided to look at reactions on here. I'm still not sure what to think. I have a REALLY hard time drinking a lot of liquids and I hate grape flavor. Not sure what to believe, some people say it's not much to drink and others say it is to the point of making them sick. Some say it's minty, others fruity like grape. Oh my! Guess I'll have to just see for myself? I hope everything worked out ok for you, Katie! Sounds horrible! Why does a colonoscopy have to suck so bad???
