Not Rowasa?!?

So I finally was able to get my Rowasa enemas through my doctor in the US and Walgreens, got them shipped to Guatemala, etc, etc. When I open the box, they are not "Rowasa" brand, but Perrigo brand, Mesalamine rectal suspension, USP enema, 4.0 grms, 60 ml.

Can Walgreens do that? Can they just send me whatever they want and not the brand that was prescribed by my doctor? I specified not to send me generic.

Has anyone tried this brand enema? I'm so frustrated and upset (especially after having spent $680.00 plus s+h) I could cry.....

I notice they typically do that unless the box that says "do not substitute" is checked off on the prescription. It sounds like you had your doctor specify brand name. I would be very angry too! Why did you order from Walgreens and not from a Canadian Pharmacy? I think Canada is usually less expensive. Not sure if they ship to Guatamala. I just checked CanadaDrugs and they ship worldwide. I am sorry this happened to you. These kinds of things always happen to me and I know how frustrating it is! Are you sure the generic won't work for you?

It is frustrating that you did not get the brand name, but I just wanted to mention that I always took the generics - Perrigo, TEVA, and they worked perfectly. Do not be afraid to use them the nights that you wait for the Rowasa. They contain exactly the same medicine, in the same amount. I know Rowasa is more expensive, so the pharmacy usually replaces it with another brand.

That is also the brand (Generic) I use but I have health insurance so it is really inexpensive ($10 for a 30 day supply). I can not believe how much you had to pay for them!!! Oh my, that is outrageous. I would think the generic would be much cheaper. If I were you I would research online to see if that is the typical cost for the brand.

Thanks guys for the encouraging words. I'm so desperate to get this under control that I'm just going to use them anyway.
It's been such a hassle getting the doctor to call in the prescription, and then getting Walgreens to mail it to me. I went with Walgreens because someone mentioned that they mail it anywhere in the US (I have a US mailing address). I had even specified that I did not want generic. I can't even imagine what Rowasa would have cost if I spent $680.00 on generic!!

Just wish it had been Rowasa.

$680?! I think they charged you for the Rowasa and sent you the generic! I use the generic myself, but I encourage you to check into that pricing!

I've always used generic. They should NOT have charged you the brand name price though for generic. i would call and call again until I got my money back.

They gave me the generic also. It took over a week before they could get the med. I went to CVS and they told me flat out they may not be able to get the med. The generic worked just fine. I just was ready to get started with my treatments. $680 is a lot to pay for generic. I don't have to pay for my generic's, because my insurance pays for all generics. On the slip the price was no where near $680.

Here is a product link for them. It looks like 442. for 28 of them or 116. for 7. Still expensive but cheaper then what you seem to be paying.

Yes, it seems that they charged you for brand but sent you generic. Without insurance the brand will run close to 700.00 but the generic should not. I would call Walgreens!
