Dumb, simple question - are we UC sufferers more prone and susceptible to hemorrhoids?

Not having the frequent bowel movements, urgency, etc., but have recently noticed more frequent, bright red blood on stool and toilet paper while wiping, as well as pain when i sit/strain.

Never had hemmies before, wondering if I've developed them from use of enemas?

I have had them and I see a lot of topics relating to them so it does seem like we may be more prone to these issues. I have been dealing with a fissure lately and it's actually worse than the hemmies I've had in the past and harder to heal :(

I don't think it happens from using enemas, many people mention the enemas helping to heal or alleviate pain from hemorrhoids.

The main reason I brought up the enema is I usually get a sharp, piercing pain (almost like I'm sticking a knife up there) when I first start using it - I never would have figured that it would be a pleasurable experience but I have been suspecting that there may be something more going on up there aside from typical inflammation associated with the UC and flare-up.

Do your enemas have lubrication on them? mine do. It is still a little uncomfortable if you have a hemmie or a fissure when you insert them but I don't know if it harms the situation. It's probably best to use an ointment to protect the anus. I've been using Calmoseptine.

     I suffered with hemorrhoids for years!  Even before I ever got UP.

They have lubrication on them - almost like vasoline. I don't know if I really have a hemmie or a fissure, I'm just struggling with the fact that I continue to have blood. It comes and goes but I have had it each of the past 3 days now and now my butt just hurts, period.

The fact that is it bright red and mainly faint streaks leads me to believe the source is near the very end of my anus.

I thought I had a hemmie but I had my GI look and it's a fissure. I am wondering if I ever had hemmies or if it's been a fissure all along. You should go get checked out if possible.

is the treatment for a fissure different than a hemorrhoid?

I think so. My GI told me to sit in a hot water bath a few times a day for 10 or 20 minues for hemmies and she told me to do the same for the fissure. She also said to keep it protected by using a cream. I've used tucks and a&d in the past but now I use calmoseptine. I think you can get suppositories for either one, not sure if they are the same medicine. Mine hasn't gotten to the point where I've had to get medicine for it yet. If it doesn't improve I will probably have to soon.

Warning.......
I read the "garlic helps hemorrhoids" page and it says:

"Don’t use garlic for bleeding hemorrhoids as this may aggravate the condition."

I have been taking Nature's Way Garlicin tablets.
I use corticosteroid suppositories is when I see a significant amount of blood.
This usually happens when I have eaten something that has caused more BMs and has irritated the hemmies.

Straining is never good so try to avoid it.

Enema usage: I use a good amount of petroleum jelly on the applicator and also insert a blob into the rectum to avoid pain and further irritation.

Yesterday morning, my 3 year-old informed me that quiet toots stink more. I think, however, that garlic enema-powered toots would take the prize over SBD's.

Far as I know, the rectal meds like the foam ones, can aid with hemmies and fissures, otherwise, epsom salt baths can aid with both as well...your doc can perscribe hemmie/fissure meds too I think. For fissures I find that an epsom salt bath and then after drying carefully, rubbing extra virgin olive oil on them helps (but this may likely not heal hemmies, works great for small, not too deep fissures though.

Good luck, they are a pain in the *** LOL!
