Having hot flashes and sweating profusely - Prednisone?

I know it's a little warm in my office today but I am having sweat rolling down my face and neck.....is this the start of the prednisone side effects?  Just over 2 weeks at 60mg a day and I am roasting.

I borrowed a fan but it is making my montior image shaky.....don't know why.

Up at higher doses of pred I would spike a 102 temp for about 5-10 minutes several times a day. Now at 15 i get warm flashes. My temp only reaches 99.5 and not nearly as often. NO fun! My mom just kept laughing at me. and hey, we get to go through it all again someday!

I am 51 and do that all the time and I dont take pred. but yes you will go threw it again you have a sneak preview of going threw the change. sorry you have to go threw it now.

How familiar...at 60mg of pred I was getting those day and night. I think at 50 or 45 mg it stopped happenning. I hope you can taper soon...

Me, too! I'm only on 40 mg and I am sweating and hot at work, too! keep thinking someone is tampering with the AC, but today when I was sweating during a meeting, the others brought in sweaters and then I knew it was the pred/me. At least I don't have night sweats, only day sweats. I just hope mabye all this sweating is burning off the extra calories I'm eating! ha ha ha

My husband at the 40 mg was having it happen a lot...once he started to taper (at 15 now and staying there for a while) it stopped. Are you on a tapering schedule?

It's definitely the prednisone! I used to soak my sheets every night from night sweats and then have to take a shower in the middle of the night. Oh, what a joy! I hope you can taper soon.

Just did my labs today and meet w/my Doc next week 10/05 so I could be on 60mg a day for another month and a half then will taper. I'll probably have my central air on at home through December and I live in NH where it goes down to 30 degrees in Dec or maybe, i'll just wear shorts........guess better to be on it in Fall/Winter than summer.

I am feeling kind of moody, but don't know if it's a PMS/Flaring/Hot Flash ticking me off.........my poor husband, I'll probably be snappy at him all weekend.

Moodiness is also a pred side effect... in fact, it can cause some pretty extreme mood swings and mental issues at higher doses. Check out this great book to learn more about how to deal with side effects: Coping With Prednisone: It May Work Miracles, but How Do You Handle the Side Effects?

Thanks Princesa! I am going to order it this weekend!!! My hair is plastered to my scalp w/sweat. It seems to be happening every day at 3:00pm and I take my pill every day at 8:45am. I am going to go stick my head in the freezer.

don't kill me but I want snow........I want to roll around in it in a shorts and t-shirt and make snow angels!!!

I agree - totally the pred.  Doc gave me ban dry to apply to underarms, trunk, and scalp.

Thank god its not just me. I haven't been on pred for that long but was on 100 mg's and during that time I would just be walking around doing nothing and look like I ran a marathon. People @ the office were wearing hoodies and heavy sweaters and I was in a t shirt and shorts. Can't wait to be done with this stuff. It helps but the sides are more then annoying

Beth - didn't you just start Remicade? I have a really hard time with my internal thermostat since my Remi. Sometimes so hot! I have regular night sweats that sometimes have me changing myself and the bed twice a night. On the other end, I also get so cold that I just can't warm up no matter how high I turn the heat up, or add extra layers. My hands get so cold that my fingernails turn blue.

Definitely could be the pred, but the remi is probably not helping.

This post is very old. I believe she did start Remicade yesterday. I wonder how she's feeling today. I sweat a lot when I was on pred too.

I'm on my third week of prednisone and I only noticed the hot/sweating issue within the past week.  I was at lunch last week with my girlfriends, and even though I could feel the air conditioner on me, I was sweating profusely.  It's rather embarrassing!  Glad to know it's from the prednisone!

It is definitely the Prednisone. Since Prednisone is the only thing I can take to clear up my flares, I have taken it for many years and when I am on it I am on a perpetual hot flash, day and night. I have to have fans on me at all times at home at work and the air conditioner in the car.

Beth75, try moving the fan away from your monitor, it should help with the shaky image with the monitor.

I got constant hot flashes, sweating, and chills with my most serious flare, and this was before I saw a GI and got meds (including pred). I got the hot flashes, sweating, and chills because of the inflammation.

Fever is common with inflammation, and hot flashes, sweating, and chills are common with fever.

Wow I am taking 20mg prednisone for the next 10 days. The doctor diagnosed me with spina bifida occulta and wanted to see if it would help. These hot flashes are killing me. Can I take an aspirin to get rid of it like when I was taking Niacin? This sucks

To all who have posted here:
I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica and have been on 10 mg for the past two months. I have had all of the mentioned side effects as far as sweats, mood swings, fatigue, bad dreams, head ache, nausea, also irregular heart beats as well. This drug is a real SOB, and I am looking forward to taper as well. I have empathy for all out here on this site, its really tough to cope some days, I guess we just have to be strong and push through it. Best of luck to all.....Keith

I have been taking Prednisone for about 3 months after being diagnosed with a rare Autoimmune disease called Polymyositis, it certainly relieved my symptoms but now I am experiencing the side effects which includes hot flushes. I am 55 years old and went through early menopause at 37 and went through hot flushes for about 3 years but thought they were well and truly behind me. Now I'm experiencing them worse than ever, I just returned from a holiday to Asia where I had rivers of sweat running down my face and back - really not looking forward to an Australian summer. I was on 50mg but have been tapering in the last 3 weeks, now down to 25mg per day but no improvement in the hot flushes. Surely they can give us something to relieve this side effect!

going through the same thing... sweating and at times hot flashes with the pred. am trying to taper to 35mg and lower...
