wow, i feel like i could have written your post, as that was exactly me last year, symptoms came back after pred, rowasa daily not getting better, still mild to mod symtoms going on that i was beginnning to think i had to live with.... it was at this point when i came here and did some research and decided i was going to try diff things myself before i would ever try pred or anything stronger. Diet modification in addition to your meds was a great help to me, and maybe this can help you, heres what i did:
1. started a food/symptom diary. it was obvious that every late morning i was having the worst of it. it was like an aha moment. my breakfast was coffee, yogirt and a banana. when i gave up coffee with flavored creamer i had an improvement in symptoms within 3 days, no more bleeding.. I believe this was the single most important thing i did to finally get out of a flare.
2. i am lactose intolerant but i was still eating yogurt thinking i could tolerate it, but sadly no
3. added a probiotic, i started with something cheap and now i am using vsl #3 DS
4. started taking fiber supp (metamucil capsules)
5. eat as clean as possible, avoid things that i know bother me (from my food diary), such as fast foods, junk foo0ds, processed foods, sugar, limit glutens and potaoes, etc etc.
I did reintroduce coffee once i was feeling better, and within 3 days i was in a mild flare, stopped coffee, flare gone.
I am thinking of trying coffee again ( I reaaaaaalllly love my coffee, it is my only vice) but this time with rice milk or something. i love those flavored coffee creamers that have the worst possible ick in them, and i noticed one ingredient, carregenan gets talked about as an IBD inflammatory agent, so i am thinking maybe it is the careegenan. so i am going to try some without and see if i get the symptoms.
good luck and i hope you feel better soon
