Help! Smaller-dose Lialda?

All-

Doc just switched me from Asacol to Lialda (thinking the Asacol wasn't doing that much and a different delivery mechanism would be better). Here's the problem- I'm on 1.2g 2/day, and the 1.2g pill are HUGE. All things are relative, but these things are way too big for me to even attempt to swallow- can't do it.

Spoke to the pharmacy, they're telling me that's the only dose that the manufacturer makes (checking on that now). They suggested I try and find another manufacturer (meaning generic)... also left a message for the doctor.

Does anyone know if Lialda is available in a smaller dose? I'm thinking not based on what I've read, but wanted to put it out there for the experts- thanks!!

I'm on Lialda, and not as far as I know. I thought the same, but have found that they are pretty slippery and go down nicely with a big glass of water. Hopefully you will be able to find a solution though!

I agree.. they are huge! But I also agree with girlzilla, their coating is smooth so it goes down very well with a big gulp of water.

Good luck (never heard of smaller option - been on them for 3 years now)

A smaller dose Lialda is probably the same as Asacol. There is also AsacolHD which is 800mg. I am not sure how large those pills are.

I can take 4 Asacol at once.

The whole deal was that (according to the doctor), the coatings are different between Asacol and Lialda, and they dissolve in different places/speeds/whatever, hence the switch.

The Asacol I can throw down as well!

Try taking it with a spoonful of applesauce or another pureed food product. It should help you slide it down!

I would say try chewing up a big bite of food and then throwing it in. That's what I have to do... I CANNOT swallow pills. Even if you gave me ten glasses of water to do it. If you chew something up and throw it in, you dont even realize its there.

I just switched from Lialda to Asacol HD, and they are both about the same size. The regular asacols are much smaller. I would say keep trying!

Good luck! It may be hard at first but you will get used to it!!

I'm taking Lialda and I don't have a problem with the size of the pill.

I recently switched from Lialda to Asacol HD and as MNorthernlight said, they are both about the same size. They seem big I agree but I got used to them after a bit.

you will get use to the pills...i have been taking them for so long....i can take 4 of them plus a vitamin all at one time

They do look ginormus but as others have said they go down pretty easy. I am able to take 2-3 at once with no trouble and I have issues with swallowing pills at time also. Good luck, you will do fine!

Alright everyone, I took them! I wasn't happy about it, but they were "light and floaty" on a gulp of water :)
