Hey Nicki -
I don't think there are too many active posters who have had j-pouches on the UC board. There are a handful here but many more on the Ostomies board.
https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=33Have you had the opportunity to look over there a little bit? I read there quite often and I find that it eases my mind about
surgery. I have seen a lot of people with absolutely no regrets except not doing it sooner. I am not quite ready to accept losing my colon but I do think it is a good option if you can't keep your UC uder control. It would also be nice to be off these medications, especially to never have to take pred again. It is really a very individual decision that you have to make when the time is right.
I consider my relationhip with my colon to be in bad territory but it could be worse. Hopefully things continue to improve and we both have long remissions without any worries about
bathrooms or urgency.
Are you Female? One thing I have heard if that surgery can decrease your chance of conceiving a child so you may want to look into that before deciding surgery is right for you. At the same time, I've seen some people here post j-pouch having children so it is completely possible. I have no plan of having children but my worry is, what if I end up worse? or what if I have Chron's and not UC?
