My daughter had her 2nd infusion of Remicade one week ago.  The day after the infusion she broke out in red "pimples" on her back, chest, forehead,  under her jawline.  I called the doctor and he didn't think it was the type of rash that usually goes with the Remicade, however I did read that Prednisone does have that kind of side effect (known as steroid acne).  She has been on (and off) of Prednisone for the past 5 months without a rash.  Today, she complained of "chest pain".  She described it as "when you eat or drink too fast and you get that pain in the center of your chest."  Has anyone experienced this?  Any ideas or suggestions?

Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and possible Crohns 12/2010

Hospitalized 5/2011 for 6 days - received 1st Remicade infusion

Was on Aziathiaprine for 3 months but it didn't help.

Prednisone titrating down currently 20 mg

Asacol-HD 800 mg 3x daily

Omeprazole

Vitamin E 800i.u

Folic Acid

D3 1000

Iron - twice daily

I had prednisone acne on my face, back, and shoulders when I was on pred. But I would describe that as acne, not little bumps.

When I was above 50mg I would slab have what I would describe as tightness in my chest along with a racing heart. Could that be what she is complaining about?

I am not sure about the bumps, it is possible it is a delayed reaction. I have heard that Remicade can cause heartburn is some people. Is that what she is describing? Can she breath okay?

I get chest pain from the remicade. Since my first infusion actually.  Mine gets worse when i eat or drink.  My doc did tons of blood work and chest exams(I seen a cardiologist) and I was fine.  I knew it was the remicade.  I knew it.  Well, we think it is heartburn.  I'm on prilosec twice a day and if I forget to take it I pay big time.  i get the pain in my chest and it feels like I'm having a heart attack sometimes.  I can breath okay and everything it just hurts.  I have had two scopes down the throat done and they come back fine.  I just went to the dentist the other day and he asked if I have acid reflux because from last time I seen him I am getting acid errotion on my teeth.  I would ask to go on prilosec this kind of sounds like what I get.  If she is having a hard time breathing I would call the doc right away.  You don't want to mess around on remicade.

Also, the rash thing maybe put her on zyrtex.  I take it every day once a day.  If I don't I get a rash on my chest, jaw line, and arms.  It itches so bad.  I never got a rash on prednisone. 

Is the remicade helping her symptoms?  The only reason I stay on it is because it has given me my life back.  But I have heart burn, reflux, joint pain, and a rash to deal with from the remicade.   I wish her the best of luck.

When I was on Remicade, I had all sorts of pain. When I was getting the infusion, I would feel like I was having some asthma issues. I would just keep a close eye on her when she goes to get her third infusion....

Thanks to everyone who replied! We are new members and very much appreciate the support and feedback. We are hoping with the titration of prednisone, the "steriod acne" will begin to subside, if not we have been advised by her GI to contact a dermatologist. She did have some breathing issues but that was when she was on the azathiaprine (which she is unable to take). Yesterday, we are happy to say, she said that although her "chest hurt" a little her breathing was so much better (she used to run 7 miles now she is happy to get 2). Last night, after dinner the chest pain was a "9" (we like to work with a rating scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst possible pain). My husband gave her omeprazole (she takes this in the morning 15-30min before she eats) and within 15 minutes the pain had subsided. Even though she is dealing with a rash/acne and heartburn, she says its better than the alternative. She doesn't want to stop the remicade.
