A question for those who are using Salofalk suppository.

I started to use it a week ago. Blood and mucus seemed to have gone away, formed stool. But in last 2 days, when I passed gas, I felt some water in/around rectum, and often the water came out a little with gas. I tend to think the water was not mucus. Curious about what this water is and where it is from. Anyone experienced this? Thanks.

I think it's from the suppositories....that's why I hate using them.

Canasa is the US version of Salofalk.

I agree with qunicy, if you pass wind while using a suppository, bad things can happen. Same goes for an enema. Usually you're OK but you never know...

I had the same thing when using them(salofalk supps). Switched to pentasa enemas and haven't had any issues and find that the enemas (although a little more work) are definitely worth it.

I've used them but never found them to be helpful with my proctitis at all, so I use cortifoam which works best for me.

i use them.
sometimes when they are not absorbed totally you will see that watery stuff pop up.

They have a way of leaking a bit of liquid out. Something in their composition seems to be oily. They have ruined several pairs of my pants, so I tend to like to use them overnight rather than in the daytime.

yep DavisD, off course, i use them overnight. sometimes if i give a fart during the night i will find my pajamas a little bit ... oily hehe.

i prefer suppositories to enemas, because i can take them in lower dosage (the smallest enema has 2 mg of mesalasine).
i combine 1 of it during the night with 2*500 mg of salofalk pils during the day.

So, how do you 'deal with' the liquid coming out when you are in office/on street/talking to someone?

And, I heard that Pentasa suppository is cheaper than Salofalk. Any one knows both prices? thanks.

You could adjust your diet to lessen gas.

or, just to the supps at night.

Better yet...use Salofalk enemas at night only and nothing during the day.

Are you using probiotics?
Are you using fibre supplements...?

I use probiotics but not fiber supplements. My doctors do not think probiotics is useful. Everytime I asked them to prescribe some probiotics, I got reply "O, that does not help much, it does not make much difference to take it or not".

Ive just started taking Salofalk (literally only taken it twice in my life). I found it fairly uncomfortable actually..to the pt of almost giving me cramps..like my body was trying to push it out. Am I possibly not putting it in far enough? In the morning it hadn't fully dissolved either....and a sticky waxy residue came out when I went to the toilet. Is this normal? Sorry for the unpleasant chat..but we're all in the same boat on here!
