Worse with Hydrocortisone enemas?

I started flaring 5 weeks ago and immediatley began taking Lialda (2 a day) and canasa.  Things did not get better, so Dr. just prescribed 100mg hydrocortisone enemas (minues the canasa).  I'm on my 4th day of the enema and my conditions have worsened.  I am now going to the bathroom 8+ times a day where before I was going average 4 times.  I also have a persistant sore throat. 

Should I continue taking it to see what happens, or call Dr. and try another medicine?

I would call the Dr. and see what else you could take. Have you tried Rowasa....?
The sore throat sounds like something else could be going on. My UC always acts worse when I have a virus or other kind of issue.

Same thing happened to me!  I got increased bleeding and my mucus turned to dust.  Plus I got really bad side effects very fast!  I couldn't continue past 10 day due to the sever constipation.

If it's worst and it's less than 14 day you can just stop it.  Not worth waiting for the doc to get back to you.  Mine didn't get back to me under after the 14 days I was prescribed but I stopped it on day 10 any.  She did a flex sig right away and foudn my mild UC is now mod-severe!

Apparently 100mg is overkill for some of us. Also since it's being applied directly to the colon it's not getting processed through your stomach and sm intestines; therefore, it direct absorbance into the blood stream!  Steriod definately work different than the Mesalamine.  I had the opposite effect with melasamine..the oral I had terriable side efects but was fine with the enema.

Thanks! Dr. got back to me right away. He said he discontinue the enemas. He wants me to start on predisone. :-( URG! I remember the horrors of predisone from my first flare in 2006.

I know canasa always seemed to work well for me, too.

Again, I ask - have you tried the Rowasa enemas? If canasa works well for you, maybe Rowasa would also.......?

In any case, I hope you're feeling better soon!
