For those of you who have had eye problems caused by your UC, could you tell me what you are experiencing? I have been having a lot of problems with goo in my eyes and redness and some yellowness, as well. The goo is the worst. I feel like I am constantly wiping my eyes and there is always goo (sorry I can't come up with a better word) there. I thought I had pink eye for a little bit, but I am wondering if I have something going on due to my UC.

There are a few eye complications associated with Uc. If you are having discharge and redness, it's best to go see your doctor to be placed on medicated eye drops.

Absolutely go to an opthamologist to get a diagnosis of what's going on. There are many infections one can get, not related to disease, but what you don't want is to let an infection continue that could cause damage or be spread to others.

I have eye problems, seems NOT related to UC...

I have eye issues and I'm pretty sure they are related to my UC although the eye doctor can't definitively say. Some parts of the whites of my eyes become inflamed and red for months at a time with no known cause. It seems to happen a few months before I go into a flare, almost like a warning sign. At this point I take steroid eye drops daily to keep in under control. However, I've never had any "goo" so that sounds more like a bacterial infection if you ask me, definetly get it checked out, you don't want to mess with your eyes!

Do you wear make up? I had a case of goopy eye recently and finally got rid of it after throwing away my eye cream (it must have gotten contaminated). The most common offender for me is mascara. The easiest way for me to see if it's a beauty product is just to not put anything near my eyes (creams or make up) for 4-5 days. If it clears up then that's probably the issue and I clean everything and throw out my mascara. This was a tough one for me to figure out because I have never had my eye cream be the culprit before. I think I got this last eye infection to begin with because my daughter (3.5) got a cold and kept coughing in my face (little booger). Anyhoo, I hope that helps! :o)

Definitely check it out with the ophthalmologist. Diabetes tends to increase eye problems, too-- so you don't want to let this go unattended, especially with a gooey discharge. Many of us UCers experience dry eye, but your problem seems different. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I get red and itchy eyelids.

I'm pretty sure it's a reaction to one of my meds but I don't know which one (possibly Imuran). They get all wrinkly and irritated.

When it happens I look like I have the eyes of a ninety year old man...

Plankton..that could be blepharitis. it could be indirectly from the imuran by causing suppression of immune system.

Do the search on it...and you should definitely get that checked out. Washing daily with a solution of baby shampoo and water every morning should help.

Thanks Quincy! I'll mention it to my dermatologist. Now that I have the right name I can research the condition.

It doesn't happen all the time. It comes and goes with months or years in-between.

Interesting. Maybe an allergy? Do you touch your eyes often?

Don't know if you're male or female, but for women...eye, face or hair products are a culprit in allergy.

I'm pretty sure it's an allergy. Oh and I'm a fellow. No make up for me.
And I try NOT to touch my eyes, especially when they are irritated.

I was perscribed Hydrocortisone ointment for it by the dermatologist.(I use it very carefully and infrequently, I don't wan't an infection.)

They oinment makes it disappear, so it is definitely an allergic reaction of some kind. either from a med or my over active immune (i.e. Nutty) system.

My reaction to mesalamine was a skin problem too. So maybe I just have sensitive skin. It gave me a psoriasis like condition. Had it for ten years! But turned out it was the mesalamine the whole time. Sorry to go off topic. I'll submit my own post about it.

On pred I get quite bad blurry vision at times, which is pretty bad because a few times when driving my eyes have went all over the place and had to emergency pull over.

I get very red and sore eyes during a flare up, but has only been in the last week that i put two and two together, it is a sypmtom of U/C..... I get blurry vision, especially at the end of the day.

I too have MPWE (Mysteriously Puffy and Weepy Eyes). What's odd is that I was just diagnosed w/ UC, having quit smoking in March; however, my eye issues began in October, w/ something that looked like conjuctivitis, and which gradually improved, except that I now wake up each morning w/ puffy eyelids, and weepy eyes. Then, throughout the day, they're just slightly dry feeling, and mildly red.
