LDN and possible yeast infection

For the second time since May I have an UTI/Vaginal Infection of Group B strep.  I have never had anything like this before and am taking the dreaded antibiotics again.  Could this possible be from the LDN?  I have heard that it can bring up yeast issues.

  I am thinking about stopping it for a short time to see if this problem goes away.  I hate to stop it because it is helping me but something is giving me this infection.  I will give the compounding pharmacy a call but thought I would mention it on here.  Thanks.

Are you eating a lot of sugar? I notice that when I eat sugary foods for a couple days I always feel like my body has systemic candida & I can even have UC symptoms. I know it's crazy but I will feel tired and have female issues. If I cut out sugar for a couple days, things seem to balance out. When I say cut out sugar, I mean opting for an omlette over pancakes, no starch, fruit seems to be OK. Eat a salad instead of a sandwich. Soft cheeses are bad for yeast as well... Maybe this will help you. I thought I would need diflucan a few times and I was able to get back to normal in a day or 2 by eliminating sugar.

I just can't figure it out. It is common with pregnant women. I was pregnant and lost the baby in March but was negative then. Now I have these UTI symptoms and other things and tested positive for Group B strep. I thought I read where LDN can cause yeast problems. The compounding pharmacist I need to talk to is out today.

LDN can cause latent yeast issues to re-surface.

But you could control that, just like notsosickly suggested, with diet. Stay off sugar, carbs for a week and see what happens.

Are you pregnant now?

Hopefully you can get in touch with your compounding pharmacist for some answers soon.

Lowered immune system can cause yeast infections. If your WBC is down from being on an immunosupressant, you can get them easily. I had a lowered immune system from being on 6mp and like I said, eating less sugar helped stop it in its tracks. Maybe I was just lucky.

I don't know too much about UTIs. What antibiotic are you taking?

Can you get in touch with the doctor who prescribed LDN to ask some questions?

I feel great otherwise. I am taking Levaquin. It's just the taking antibiotics that scares me. I just wish I knew why I was getting this.

Yeast and strep bacteria are two different beasts...not to say they don't coexist at one time.

I believe there are women who normally carry Strep B and if pregnant are to be tested to make sure it's treated before babies are born vaginally.

One question...has your husband been checked for Strep B?

Are you being treated for the Strep B?

It really is so frustrating to hear you're yet going through more stuff when you're just starting to feel better.

Hope this gets dealt with and that you don't have to stop the LDN.

Group B strep is a bacteria, not yeast. Did you get a positive yeast culture also? If it is yeast, the antibiotics would only make it worse.

Cutting out sugar would help in either case, but the western medicine treatment for yeast vs. bacteria would be greatly different...

also, if you're sure you have a UTI you could try an alternative if you're open to it. It would work on the UTI but not on any vaginal issues.

I used this on my last UTI and it totally worked. No antibiotics, woohoo!

There are other alternative methods you could use for vaginal issues as well, let me know if you're open to more of my hippie suggestions tongue and I'll pass them on.

If you have yeast problems you could try a Saccharomyces boulardii probiotic. Basically it is different harmless yeast species that can out-compete candida and so crowd it out.

the only thing i know about candida is you have to starve it from sugar. you take the VSL so that is good. I used to have terrible yeast infections. embarassingly i had it so bad it hurt to walk down the street. horrible. well that is all i can suggest i hope it helps

Good point brought up by Quincy. Sometimes I feel I get "issues" from my husband. Fungus/yeast is transferable.

It was positive for Group B Strep. I guess I thought it was same as yeast infection. No I am not currently pregnant. Maybe just something happening from the previous pregnancy? My husband hasn't been checked. I didnt know it was possible for men to have it. I guess on Tuesday I will be calling the doctor back with questions. I am leaving for the beach on the 11th and don't need this mess. Otherwise, I haven't felt this good UC wise in three long years. Thanks for the input. I will keep you posted.

Definitely you both can ping-pong anything! Insist he be checked. Insist you be treated if you're having symjptoms.

It's not the same as yeast....Strep B, being a specific bacteria, can cause serious harm or kill a newborn eventually if it's exposed to it vaginally during delivery.


It's good your UC is leveling out.
