Most of you guys are lucky. I come from the UK and here none of the "medical experts" know how to deal with UC. I have been in remission for 3 years and long periods prior to this, but recently I discovered I was pregnant and since have suffered heavily with UC. In fact I am frequenting the bathroom at least 6-7 times per day which is debilitating and scary. I feel like I will spend my whole pregnancy like this. I went to the doctor a few days ago and was seen by a locum. I begged to be seen by my GP but the locum took that as some form of challenge to diagnose me. He started carrying out tests (even though I was diagnosed at the age of 17, now in my 30's) even I know what medications etc I am usually prescribed. He decided to send me to Accident & Emergency, where I spent 6 beautiful hours. There was no food machines or even water available and the public toilet was extremely filthy; so impossible for me to use as I also suffer from OCD!! After 6 hours I was seen by a junior medic who told me that there was nothing they could do apart from admit me and carry out some tests on me. They also told me I should have been sent to another hospital that deals specifically with UC and bowel diseases. They told me to book an appointment the next day and when I tried, I was on hold for 45 minutes and when I finally got through they told me they did not run a walk in clinic and I had to have a referral from my doctor. Luckily (or not) yesterday I got to see my personal GP. He was confused why I was sent to A&E as all my history was in my notes. I have now been prescribed a concoction of meds. Including Sulfasazaline, omeprizole, iron tablets, and suppositries. I am particularly worried as this is my first pregnancy. I feel like it's a no win situation as my body trauma cannot be good for the baby, but also all the meds (which have not started working yet) cannot be good for the baby either.Post Edited (Sienna.Rodriguez) : 7/14/2011 2:14:00 AM (GMT-6)
