Lomotil might have made things worse for a few days after.

I'd been averaging 3-4 BM's per day, but with increasing urgency... so I took lots of lomotil (not above recommendations though) last Saturday evening, Sunday, and Monday morning. Well, Tuesday was terrible. I had 5 BM's within an hour and a half of being up in the morning, and three more over the course of the day. Wednesday was down to 6 BM's. Today I've only had three and it's almost the end of the day.

Who knows what was going on, but maybe once the colon became unsedated or whatever lomotil does, it got caught up? lol.

I get Immodium back-lash too, the day after I take it I go all the time! It's like the colon starts working again, & bam! I don't recommend using it unless you absolutely HAVE to leave the house, or have a special occasion/function to attend. To be honest, 3-4 bm's a day sounds good to me, even taking urgency into account. I only use Immodium if I'm up to 6-7 bm's & I still haven't left the house yet!

I was having problems with lomotil, too, it would help make my left side stop hurting, but when it wore off, it made it hurt worse, in addition to the D coming back full force. So I quit taking it and am only using immodium when I HAVE to go out, and sometimes not even then. The immodium doesn't make my side hurt, and I've actually been having less BM's than when I used the lomotil.

I've had to take percocets for kidney stones a few times over the last month. The day you take it is great. I could go all day with only one trip to the bathroom, but I do think there was a bad rebound the next day when things would be worse than normal.

I keep Lomotil on hand just in case I need to go somewhere where I might be nervous and not be able to "make it". But YES it definitely pays you back the next day! The mornings are the worst for me, so usually it just makes my morning horrible then im good after that.

Have you given Cholestyramine(like Questran) a try yet? It helped me a lot with slowing down the whole transition process and diarrhea.

I use Welchol.  It is like Questran.  It works great for slowing things down and urgency.  I also use the Immodium. I get a good few days in then I have the pay back day.  I don't mind though.
