Kindly advice because,UCis diagnosed by colonoscopy

I am 31year male here .started my medication for UC from June 21 2011

 

Two week I had Prednisolon Nycomed 5Mg x2 x Three time (30 mg /Day)

From third week Prednisolon Nycomed 5Mgx2 x Tow time (night &morning)(20 mg /Day)

 

Currently I am having 2 Prednisolon Nycomed 5Mg tow time (per day 20 Mg )

Asacol 400 Mg 2 tablet 3 time (per day 240Mg) from June 21 still continues

 

Is this normal medication dosage?

 

My doctor told me to try reducing  Prednisolon per day 15Mg I means three time 5mg 1 tablet

 

And he asked me to observe 3-4 days and if I find any blood then I must continue 20Mg per day

 

Now I want to know these dosage is normal?

Is there any side effect for using Prednisolon Nycomed 20mg per day?

 

I sill feeling minor cramp feelings stomach left side and very  small quantity of mucus observed on surface of stool

 

Kindly advice because, its one month now I am having medicine for UC which is diagnosed by colonoscopy and biopsy test

 

Food white rice and yoghurt  from the day started medication

 

Some days boiled chicken egg morning ..

 

Feel whole day hungry  but afraid to take snakes

 

Normally how many days its for remission stage?

 

Do I need to do any further test ?

The steroid doses you describe seem normal, maybe a bit on the low end compared to what we typically get in the US for an IBD flare. It is important to taper to zero steroid over several days. Your DR is correct in tellilng you to bring your dose back up if your symptoms get worse.

As for food, this is such an individual thing. My choice has typically been to eat as I always have, maybe paying attention to reduce really challenging things like high spice or high fat. I did have to eliminate lactose - but this is not usually found in yogurt, rather milk and soft cheese.

The second time I was on predisone I took 40 mg in the morning. Taking all of it at once helped and it helped decrease the insomnia they I would get from it. And then of course tapering slowly after two weeks. However, the last time once I was on it I had symptoms start to return. I started doing my Rowasa enemas nightly (as per advice from here) and now I do them every 3 nights and take 2 Lialda daily. Eat whatever I want for the most part.

It sounds like your doctor wants you to gradually taper off the steroid drug while phasing in Asacol, a non-steroid anti-inflammatory med which is safer to take longterm. With the steroid one usually reduces the dosage by 5-10 mg every 5-7 days until getting down to 2.5 mg daily (half of 5 mg pill). That is supposed to give your endocrine system time to readjust. Feeling very hungry often during the day is a side effect of the steroid drug. It's o.k. to have a snack; just try to keep it low-salt, lowfat-- so that you don't gain an excessive amount of weight. Make sure you get enough calcium, vitamin D, potassium, & iron from your diet. Did your doctor do any blood tests to check for vitamin/mineral deficiencies? You should keep in touch with your doctor at least monthly for about 3 months from the time you quit the steroid med; then if your inflammation has come under control with Asacol, you will probably be able to reduce your contact with the doctor to 2-3 appointments a year. Why would you be given steroids from Day 1? That is not how the pyramid of treatment goes here. Odd.

Thanks for all your suggestions

Now I am in trouble ,as per doctors instruction I tried by reducing Prednisolon dosage

Usually I was having 20 mg per day .10 mg morning and 10mg night

I tried 5mg three time so per day 15 mg ,I tried to reduce 5 mg only .but form that time I am noticed mucus with blood small amount

Still its continues .while having 20mg Prednisolon per day my bowel moment was 1time in a day .now its become 2 time .

But now again I started taking 20mg per day .even though noticed mucus with blood

So by seeing all this symptoms please guide me

What I have to do next ?

Food menu I didn’t changed.
But I taking food from company mess .

so I am worried now
please give some ides .....................

So sorry to hear about your colitis flareup. My GI also started me on prednisone, Day 1 25mg, but increased to 50mg after being hospitalised with my last flare. It took me 7months to finally wean off the prednisone, Pentasa did the trick for me after a couple of months!! You may need to stay on a certain dosage a little longer than a week before reducing the dose, a few weeks perhaps and lower the dose by 5mg no more. See what your GI has to say. Also whilst you're flaring maybe stay off the dairy products as they can give you diarrhea. In the meantime stay strong. This disease is horrid, but you will get to know through trial and error what works and what doesn't for you.
