i have been avoiding trying remicade for so long because i'm scared of getting lymphoma and dying.
but really how common is it?
i'm starting to feel like its worth the risk

I remember my dr. saying it was a low percentage of risk (I can't remember the number but it was low). That being said the longer you are on a powerful drug like that, the risk goes up. You are very young and you need to take into consideration being on a drug like that for the long haul. It could put you in remission and then you can get off of it down the road...that would be the ideal scenario. So many "ifs" with treating UC. Good luck to you.

that is true, noone truly knows the long term effects of drugs like remicade but i have read that ur not at risk once you have been on it longer...
i have read data that states a normal person has a 2 in 10,000 chance of lymphoma
a person on azathioprine this is doubled to 4 in 10,000
and remicade and azathioprine it goes to 6 in 10,000
if i look at it that theres a 1 in 1500 chance that i die from having remicade thats still a pretty good chance in my favour just trying to think whether my colon is worth it.

I'll take a doctor's word over some random stories posted on this forum. Also,
"As per a research findings reported in the cutting-edge section of the Jan. 15 issue of the Journal of Immunology, the team observed that anti-TNF compounds help eliminate abnormal B cell activity in patients, raising the possibility that the drugs improve the health of patients in a way no one has realized before".

I totally understand your concerns...as far as the side effects, it's such a crapshoot (pun intended) I did NOT want to put my daughter on it but it came down to that or surgery. She's been through so much there is no way I could have her colon taken out without knowing we tried EVERYTHING
