haha I haven't gotten around to it. I'm still exploring other food choices right now (just got a juicer!!)

If I get well enough to where I want to start exercising daily again, I'll likely make that phone call because his whey powder just seems to be the best/cleanest. The other option for protein intake that is absolutely, purely clean, and perhaps even better for you than whey, is powdered egg whites. They are difficult to mix in a blender sometimes, and don't taste all too hot, but they are absolutely clean (no additives of ANY kind, JUST egg whites!) and are claimed to have a better bioavailability than whey for the body to absorb proteins.

Just went on vacation and felt great. Badslinke- You should ask your doc about trying Welchol. It has really helped me in combo with the LDN.

I've never heard of powdered egg whites. How do you powder them? You're right, that would be pure protein! But don't toss the yolk away just yet (pun intended)...

I don't tolerate egg whites at all - and since I've been very small I always got grossed out by the little white hanging thingie, haha, whatever you call it officially? So, I've always loved egg yolks. They are wonderfully nutritious for you - full of vit d3, and cholesterol the kind the produces sex hormones and all....Sometimes I will just have 3 or 4 egg yolks for dinner, yum. :-)

You sound like you're doing much better.

You buy them in a big bulk box. They come powdered and pasteurized.

And ya I'm doing much better :-) still not completely on top, but a sight better than I was doing just a few weeks ago.

It's a cholesterol med they give to people who get gallbladder out and have diarrhea. It binds the bile acids together which slows things down and binds them up. It totally helped my urgency problem. You can't take within so many hours of other meds so it doesn't bind to them. I take one in morning and one at night. It's similar to powder packets of Questran. It has no side effects because it is absorbed in stomach or some place.

Thanks for the info on Welchol. I'll have to look into that for those family members with high cholesterol.

Is this a  big-pharma drug that needs a prescription? Or a supplement ? Thanks.

It is a prescription med but I am not taking it for high cholesterol.  They give it for IBS and diarrhea.

What an interesting supplement. I don't think I'll take it though, as I'm trying to keep the number of chemicals I put in my body down to an absolute minimum.

On that note, I have a confession to make...

I stopped my LDN completely. It's been 3 days now, and I'm doing fine. Honestly, my mind feels a little more balanced. I was having odd little reactions to small things, where tiny details would make me worry unnecessarily. That is WAY not my style. I had a similar reaction when I was taking high doses of prednisone: I would find my mind tripping out and stressing over little stuff, when normally I am a very relaxed person who has learned well to let small things go. On the plus side, when I was on that prednisone, my house was really clean hahaha. It's like I had a temporary case of OCD. The feeling with LDN was similar, and it's gone now since I've stopped.

I guess LDN wasn't the ticket for me guys. I'm doing great right now on a combo of massive VSL 3 doses, l-glutamine, psyllium seed and a specific dietary plan. The truth is naltrexone is an unnatural prescription drug, and my goal is to be as all-natural and drug free as possible. Thus, if I can get by without it, I won't take it. It certainly appears like I can.

When I stopped it was cold turkey and I was on it for over 6 months. I don't think it is affecting the body in a way that stopping without a taper would cause any harm. Plus it is such a small dose.

I didn't notice any difference in the few days right after stopping.

Well today is day 16: on LDN.  I was out last night with my girlfriends and yes I goofed and had popcorn, just a little bit.  It was actually ok.  This morning I only had one bm and no other bathroom trips.  The stools were firmer mix with some skinny ones, etc.  The bleeding has gone way, way done almost gone. yes!  tongue So I think LDN is trying to work.  I truly believe this will help me get into remission.  I am taking this one day at a time.  However, everyday feeling better is priceless to me.  I'm still maintaining my diet, vegs, protein, vitamines, etc.

 

Just wonder how long should I take LDN once I achieve remission?

 

If this is working for so many people, how can we get LDN recognized as an effective treatment for UC/Crohns and be used as one of the first line medications for UC?

I'm still doing good. After my morning trips (2-3) I'm usually good to go. I have even eaten my favorite thing chicken fajitas with hardly any problems.

It differs for everyone. However I can tell you from having spoken at length to Skip, that some UC patients get off it as soon as they achieve remission, and some (like me) continue to take it since there is no down side to it: it boosts your immune system, makes you generally healtier, and is pretty cheap. But that's up to you.

If this is working for so many people, how can we get LDN recognized as an effective treatment for UC/Crohns and be used as one of the first line medications for UC?

 

Unfortunately, I don't believe LDN will ever be recognized as a viable and effective treatment for UC/Crohns because the truth of the matter is: Big Pharma can't make their big profits $$$ of it - they're not making enough profits, haha.

I have been on the LDN for over 9 mos. It cost me less than $26 per month so at this point since there is no down and only positives so I am choosing to keep taking it. Probably some day I will try not taking it but for now my attitude is why take the chance as the down side is potentially very severe. I do skip a day or two here and there but that is as brave as I can be for now.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you weigh cologne? It seems you are taking less than half of the common dose (2mg instead of 4.5mg). The only reasoning I ever heard for determining the amount you should take is weight, and it was a loose scale at best. What made you decide to take only 2mg?

Just to update my situation on LDN- still doing rather well. I seem to have gone from IBD+IBS to just IBS - chemically, in addition to LDN I use 4 immodiums a day at breakfast and that does me for the day. I get soft formed stools usually each morning once, but on a couple days a week I will end up with loose stool. Anyway, I want ti get to a higher place- toput more distance between the risk of relapse- but I am certainly in a much, much better place than where I was preLDn, when I was still on Humira and low dose pred (both discontinued a few months now) and yet about to pursue jpouch surgery. I think i will try DMSO once or twice a week as a "booster". I am still doing around 20 grams a day l-glutamine, 10,000 iu/day vit D, 1000-1500 mg a day of circumin, 3 grams a day of fish oil capsules, and plenty of probiotics.

That is exactly how I feel about it: I dont intend to stop taking it since all it can do is help your overall immunity.

I'm happy to hear from you - and that you are doing better and better.

I just started adding Boswellia Serrata (from reading aguywithuc posts), but in much greater quantities - closer to 1000 mg per day as I've read that it helps with inflammation - and what is UC but inflammation? But also I was hoping it would help with my terrible arthritis induced UC and so far, it has helped alot.

I chose to buy organic Boswellia Serrata powder (because I can't take pills as I choke on them), and they told me 1/2 teaspoon is equivalent to 1000 mg, so I've added 1/2 teaspoon into my protein shakes ( twice daily), which makes my consumption around 2000 mg per day. I had read that with severe inflammation, you can take dosage of up to 1000mg - 3 to 4 times daily. BTW, a whole pound's worth of the Boswellia cost $37. I figure that should last awhile, as I haven't yet figured out how many teaspoons are in a pound, haha.

Perhaps you may want to try that instead of DMSO first? Just a thought.

Currently I weigh about 255. 6'3". The Dr. who originally informed and prescribed me about LDN, Dr. Sam Benjamin of Scottsdale, AZ is the reason for the dosage. He started me on 1mg per day for 3 weeks then upped it to 2mg.
