Check out all the info on my Facebook page dedicated to fecal transplant. My wife's GI suggested we check it out because he had another patient who did it and was cured...so we eventually did it and it literally cured my wife. We followed dr. borody's procedure (i have a link to it on my FB page).

Thanks so much for the responses. I am eager to try, just taking a second to get past the yikey part. Ok, Im past it, I am desparate for relief. I just want to make sure I do it right. It doesnt seem to involoved.

FT recipe:
large zip lock bag to collect, saline solution, empty fleet enema bottle, fresh doody, squish and mix, snip bag, fill bottle, insert and squeeze.

This is the method I am looking at from reading through the fourm..any advice or changes?

Also, Im in a full flare, have been since last June...I am going to try to do this at night so that the chances of holding it in are greater...that will be really hard as I get urges all the time, run for the pot and its just a little bit of matter...

other thing is are there any suggestions of how I eat during the 5 day process, I was going to do what I usually do,, have a early light dinner and just try to go the most I can befroe we do the deed.

Any advice? I get married in September and am wearing a white dress and hope so much that I will be able to enjoy and not have to run for the hills every hour...

Hi-

Yes, we did a colonoscopy only once and inserted 500-600 cc of fecal donor liquid.

We inserted the liquid in the terminal ileum and cecum/ascending colon.

The idea being that as it travels out it will cover the rest of the colon.

SAS took immodium after the procedure to try and retain it better.

She didn't have a BM for 2 days which is not unreasonable after having a colonoscopy.

The home version may work but I have to say retaining enemas in general is difficult. That is why we elected to try a colonoscopy.

In response to when to do the FT enemas, I honestly don't know if doing it while in a remission or flare is better (and neither does anyone else that I can tell from the literature). We did SAS when she was having mild symptoms and the first 20 cm had active endoscopic colitis.

My personal thoughts:

1. Doing it during a "flare" should be safe as we have performed FT on very sick C.diff colitis patients with great results.

2. Try to avoid being on steroids

3. I don't favor the antibiotics as not sure what they are doing- there are over 500-1000 species of bacteria in your colon. Most we have no idea what they are or what they are doing. By doing a colonoscopy prep, you reduce your bacterial load dramatically by flushing them out.

you could do this yourself by taking 250 grams of Miralax and placing it in 64 ounces of gatorade (you need the electrolytes). Drink it all and after cleared out you could try the enemas.

Thanks so much for the information!!

I am eager to give this a whirl. I suppose I can do the first one after doing the mirilax/gatorade mix and fasting, like before a colonoscopy, but to do the next several days of enemas I will have to eat something. My best chance will be to do it at night so I can at least be horizontal!

Good GI docs like Dr.G know a million times more than I do about UC.

But they know little compared to what may be known someday.

So if DIY fecal transplant doesn't eliminate all of your symptoms,

don't give up. Although Dr. G recommends not using antibiotics, I'd consider taking a course of antibiotics immediately

before a second attempt at fecal transplant.

The classic colonoscopy-assisted fecal transplant technique pioneered

by Dr. Borody of Australia uses antibiotics right before the tranplant.

Another approach uses oral antibiotics

amoxicillin 1500 mg/d,

tetracycline 1500 mg/d, and

metronidazole 750 mg/d for 2 weeks

and no fecal transplant:

If fecal transplant alone doesn't work, I'd try a different donor.

If that doesn't work, I'd try it again, with course of antibiotics

Thanks, UC is such a nightmare, I can't imagine what Chrons patients go through. I am also going to start LDN, but will do some FTs in the meantime on the off chance it will work for me!!

I'm glad our boyfriends are so generous with their poop! haha. I'm getting better on pred but am still considering doing FT very soon. Let us know how it goes!

Hey there...did the second FT last night, slept through the night which was nice, we shall see how the day progresses. After the 1st FT I made it rthrough the night but had 5-6 'D' with blood again during the day and into the evening.

I read in a thread somewhere not to be taking my other pro-biotics while I do the FTs, and comments out there? I am currently using VSL#3 but have stopped during the FTs. I guess I will do 10 FTs? Not really sure how to proceed with what to eat, etc..I dont know what foods trigger my flares..all I know is that I have been flaring and bleeding since last June.

Whats the point. 1000 species of bacteria & trillions in numbers from stool.
maybe 10 species and a few billion in numbers from probiotics.

Just let the transplants do there thing. Eat healthy, and a good amount of fiber.

^^ ditto, keep the fiber up. Stay away from sugar as best you can. Fiber is basically bacteria food, both soluble and insoluble.

thanks for all the words of wisdom, as for fiber, what are the best sources, I have been staying away from fruits and veggies because they have been going through me like roto-rooter causing lots of 'D', or so I think :) can I take a fiber supplement like metamucil or something to feed the new happy bacteria I am hopefully introducing?

That, and as far as I'm aware, cultured probiotics are incapable of colonizing your digestive system because they don't have the ability to adhere to the wall of your intestines. The flora in health poop is more than happy to set up shop and hang around.

Just got results to my CDSA...full blown Candida..will be treating it and restarting FTs on Friday!! Should give the good bacteria much more room then in its current fungus filled state! yahooo!!
My doctor said she expects me to see much better results from the FT with the Candida gone!!


She gave me a good fiber supplement and is excited for me to start the LDN as well. I am so xcited to get healthy.

I think to clear out a lot of the bad bugs your harboring you should
either get a colonic before your first implant, and maybe do a colonic lavage.
Juice fasting a few days before is good to,, gives your intestines & digestive system
a break, also is 0 fiber, so really starves your current bacteria, making it easier for
the new to come in & set up shop

fruit and veg juice. Make your own, don't get V8 or any of that crap.

Careful with it though. It can easily give you diarrhea and drain you of energy.

Remember part of the Hippocratic Oath: First do no harm.

If I were, I'd keep this healing process as simple as possible by NOT DOING too many things at once.

Psyllium seed powder is an excellent source of the soluble fibers you need to feed your gut. Beans also do very well, but go slow with them at first.

Juice with caution.

And if you really have candida, the last thing you want to be taking in is fructose or other sugars. Did your doc not mention an anti-candida diet as part of the treatment program?

I just want to add that I've spoken with Borody, and a former colleague of his.

According to both, candida is a lightweight.
There's some part of normal flora that "eats candida for breakfast"
was there exact words. So I'm not sure you really have to worry alot about candida.
Just juice fast, colonics, maybe a colonic lavage to reduce all the bad bugs you have,
& the transplant should do the rest.

Ok..Last Candida treatment today, should be clear to start FTs again this weekend! I'm am flat ready to let the healing begin!! Thanks so much for everyones suggestions and support!
