Prednisone and facial hair

Does anyone know if the excess hair on my face will go away once I am off prednisone?

I am down to 10 mg per day, tomorrow I go down to 5 mg per day and then stop taking them.

My face looks like a fuzzy peach.....

Tbh my opp is steroids (prednisone) is directly linked to messing with the hormones, it did with me! but in my case most of the hair on my body fell out due to test dropping low and estrogen shooting up.

You should ask to have your hormones checked you shouldn't really be getting facial hair like that.

I had the facial hair issues, big time, when I was on pred. and it did go away after I was off it (along with my moonface and humpback....)

The facial hair thing is pretty common on pred, from what I've heard.

I wasn't on pred but I was on steroid enema's for almost a year. I started getting all the typical side effects seen in pred. One of them was the facial hair. I was really fuzzy on the sides of my face near the jaw line. After I stopped the steroid E's, the fuzziness went away.

I get more facial hair on pred. I did find it went away during the time I was off pred.

Hey mom2panda, just wondering..... your signature shows that you were on pred for 14 months leading up to remicade. Just wondering if they tried to wein you slowly off the pred while on the imuran and 5-asa? If so how low of a dose did you get to on the pred before you had symptoms again and what were they?
If you don't mind me asking... why couldn't you tak the 5-ASA or Imuran?
I start my last week of the pred tomorrow (5 mg per day) and am really nervous about what is going to happen when I am totally off the pred.
I am also taking 100 mg of the Imuran and 4000 mg of the pentasa (5-ASA).
I am only typically having 1 bm per day and it is normal. Feel "OK" but am tired alot and some nausea.
Just wondering what your experience was when you did your "first" wein off the pred?

Hi Skidder,

I tried repeatedly to wean off pred. Every time I tried, the symptoms came back. I tried while I was taking 5-asa n, and then just by itself, and then again before Remicade. My symptoms started showing up around 10-15mg - more frequency, bit of blood, softer stools etc. and by the time I was off completely, I was in full flare within a week.

Of course, I recently tried to taper again to see if the Remicade worked, and my symptoms increased dramatically. Each time you are on pred, the less effective it seems to be.

My Dr and I believe that 5-asa meds made things worse for me, or at the very least did nothing at all.
I reacted to Imuran at 5 weeks in once the dose went up to 150mg. I had severe diarrhea, nausea, and extreme fatigue. Once I stopped taking it, all of those symptoms disappeared the next day.

If you are at one movement at day, and only on 5 mg, I'd say you have a great chance of successfully getting off the pred. Even at my highest dose of pred (60mg) I was still going 2-3 times per day. Now, at 15mg, I am going 20x per day with bleeding. I just stepped back up to 25 mg. today, so hopefully I will get at least a bit of relief.
